Two conditions are needed for a future Labour victory in our two-party system. The first is boredom with the Tories as the electorate slowly arrives at the conviction that 'change' is needed. The second is a personality that appears credible. Politics is a popularity contest as evidenced in the recent CaRT council election. In eight years' time today's primary school children will be the young voters who know nothing about today's prejudices. The Tories will likely get three terms (unless the economy bombs). Who will be the next Labour prime minister? No-one you've ever heard of. P.S. Diane Abbott isn't as dumb as you think. She's resigning her cabinet post. The real point of suspense is whether or not Long-Bailey calls her back. Hamm, let me think of something she has done or said in the last 12months to help you to back-up that claim........ ......... still thinking ....... ......... nope, I give up.

To be fair to her, she begins her answer to every question with a drawn out well... This is an indicator of an intelligent mind, taking time to construct a succinct, powerful response. Unfortunately for Ms Abbott that's as good as it gets for her as her replies, when they eventually come, are nothing like what you'd expect from a person of intelligence.

I meant that she seems to have realised that stepping back from the front bench is the second-best thing she can do for the Labour party.

I s'pose it all depends on whether you think saving the Labour Party is good for the Labour Party.
............... by the way, what has the 'Labour Party' got to do with labour these days? AFAIK the only folk in the UK who do much labour are ladies in childbirth and east europeans (who have replaced the happy-go-lucky Irish navvies that we used to welcome into our society to do the dirty stuff - reminds me of sharing a navvies' breakfast when I started off on a construction site - steak and eggs cooked on a shovel over a brazier. )

Labour the party that claims to be progressive and forward looking starts off well with 4 women and one man, did’t take long for the male dominated unions to cull two women, so now it’s 2 women and one man. Next the labour members will be voting and will they choose a woman? Nope they would rather have the man even though he is a millionaire London lawyer and has no idea about anything North of the M25. Quite right too. Women should be doing the hoovering and ironing, not running the country. It's too complicated for them. "If women ran the world we would be sitting in freezing caves brushing each others hair."

Why have a leader,? They've all been pricks since their conception.

New leader is Sir Keir Starmer. No surprise there Just as well, because if it had been Jeremy post gender change (aka Rebecca) the Labour Party would have remained unelectable and ceased to exist.

I truly hope this will be the initiator of the change needed ... but have doubts.

I don't think there is a place for traditional politics anymore. I think I have suggested in the past that we need independent representation in parliament where MP's don't have to follow a party line and can think for themselves.
If we continue with the current political model I doubt Labour will ever get in again.

Meanwhile the tories are killing off the blue rinse brigade with their incompetent handling of corvid19. All promises, no early action.
