religious people are worthless and it's not even worth pissing on them if they are on fire. However, having been involved with Church of England churches in some ways most of my life, I rather enjoy attending Midnight Communion on Christmas Eve, despite not being religious. I cannot think of any unpleasant people I have met during all of my experiences with 'The Church'. I see the hypocrites turning up to church in their expensive cars, yes, but I do think all in all the general aspect or outlook of the Church of England points to a wholesome and honest lifestyle.

I'm happy to discuss this with you. I think I'll convert to Catholicism and repent on my death-bed. When you die, can we have your skellington?

Just to clarify I don't actually tell them that. It was a joke.
I've met quite nice Christians before now. some of them were very nice people until I explained the Truth then they got a bit uppity.
People are usually ok in general. Regardless of religion.

I cannot think of any unpleasant people I have met during all of my experiences with 'The Church'. I see the hypocrites turning up to church in their expensive cars, yes, but I do think all in all the general aspect or outlook of the Church of England points to a wholesome and honest lifestyle. there are many beautiful facets of Christianity - art, music, cathedrals. I could listen to Gregorian chant and songs like Ave Maria all day long. what a shame that the only institution that could afford to create such luxuries in mediaeval times was a greedy and self-serving church. the trouble with the CofE and all other 'moderate' and tolerant religious organisations is that they lend a certain legality and justification to the actions of extremists. it's worth reading " the End of Faith" by Sam Harris and " the God Delusion" by Dawkins. Harris comes to the conclusion that as long as there are moderate Muslims there will always be the likes of Al Qaeda, ISIS and Daesh and it is entirely possible that at some time in the future they will obtain nuclear weapons and will use them purely to ensure their place in heaven and to kill the infidel. Dawkins accuses Dubya Bush of being a Christian fundamentalist who incites hatred and war in the name of his religion which is basically Anglican. There is no moderate western religion - they all support violence. Why else do the armed forces employ padres? ............ a little anecdote: my uncle was a naval officer in WW2 and after the war he was ordained and worked as a parish vicar for 44 years. He visited my parents, who were outspoken non-believers, when he had just retired and confessed to them that he had not believed in God for 20 years. He never admitted that to his wife or to his son who had followed him into the church.

I enjoy religious music despite being profoundly without belief. The one need not preclude the other Respect. Rog

Yes, read that about a year after it came out, in 2008 as I remember, started reading it in Karesuando on our way to the Lofotens. Book probably still in our storeroom.

Whilst I would like to believe in some deity/higher being I cannot accept that if there is some greater what ever why do they allow such terrible suffering.. For me 'comfort and peace' is found in nature..getting out when I can where there are few people and no-one to spoil/interfere with me and my world. When I'm upset/sad/anxious its where the comfort is. We all have props..for some its conventional religion, I tried that but the do gooders..the holier than thous I found affected peace of mind. I found some of what I needed in the Dharma centre until one of my counsellor friends, worried that I was being drawn in to much, sat with me and showed me the cracks in their beliefs. I guess he was right to do that.
