When my heatings running on the pump/backboiler setup I suffer creaky, clanky pipes, anyone know of a cure for this? All pipes are clipped correctly and any woodwork is bone dry due to me regularly running a dehumidifier, so it aint the wood contracting etc. It only happens with the intermittent pump cranking up, when running my Webasto with pump continuously running I have no noise issues.
Clanking..
More clanking in the dead of night!

It's a big rat that is actually trying to break in through the side of the hull and is more noticeable when heat is on because it drives him to get out to escape the heat Phil

I think that's "kettling".
Google search brings up discussions about it such as on the Screwfix community board etc.
It is something to do with mineral deposits from the water.

We don't particularly require your sort yet we readily accepted your expensive licence renewal fee (with a miserly 5% prompter payment - most offices gone and even phone applications have to be made SO really early now that I DO mean promptER). Boaters only need apply/payβ¦β¦ Happy New Year! met x Still know where I'd rather be though! x

Seriously, think it could be something to do with those rad covers. I have lived on boats with and without them. Double check the "mesh" stuff for movement.

Had this problem on our home heating system. Was becoming very loud and was considering all sorts of expensive cures. Before I spent money I tried putting 1 litre of sentinel x200 boiler silencer into the system. Had a couple of very loud bangs within an hour of use and then all went quiet. 10 months later and itβs still nice and quiet. Best product I have ever spent money on. I was genuinely amazed at the result.

Havenβt listened to the vid but creaky noises when the pump starts up is surely thermal expansion of the pipe constrained by the clipping or other ways the pipe position is fixed. One needs to allow for expansion in both plastic and copper pipework. Edit: I have now listened to the second video. Definitely caused by the pipe expanding and sliding (well jerking really) through its fastenings.

Not down to the rad covers then! Enjoy your evening - the cashmere sounds lovely - what colour did you choose? met x

Not down to the rad covers then! Enjoy your evening - the cashmere sounds lovely - what colour did you choose? met x Thereβs kind of 2 different clicking noises. I guess one could be down to the covers, one to the pipes. But if I had to bet on it, I think probably not the covers because they would heat up (and hence expand) much more slowly than the pipes, and also are much shorter so less expansion. Easy to find out though, just put a hand on the covers to see if that affects the clicking. Yes she liked the cashmere, it was mint green which I wasnβt sure about, although she did say she wanted a bright colour. That was the only bright colour they had in stock even for click and collect (ie from central warehouse). Being Markies, she can easily change it if she doesnβt like it. Relaxing back on the boat now after Jeffβs great turkey dinner, lots of champagne etc, now relaxing with a nice cup of tea!
