Just watching winterwatch which is reiterating climate change is real and here now! Its also very serious for the other occupants of this planet that have no hand in the destruction we have reaped Allegedly. Ian, believe what you want, it wont make any odds you will be affected the same as everybody else

Ian, believe what you want, it wont make any odds you will be affected the same as everybody else I think anyone who has been around for over 60 years will agree our climate is not 'normal' anymore. Ok, I remember the odd deep freeze and the heat wave of Summer '76 but for the most part, things settled down to what we expected. Now we seem to be getting strange patterns of weather every year. Mainly warmer weather in winter and more flooding. Or is it just the media being tasked to stress us out to reduce the population size?

60 years? Come back in 60 million years, then we'll have a slightly better picture.

60 years? Come back in 60 million years, then we'll have a slightly better picture. Well that's the thing isn't it? Most people only evaluate what's normal from personal experience. If we were born 5000 years ago, we'd have a completely different view of normal.

It seems reasonable to accept that the increase of 'greenhouse gasses' into the atmosphere is in fact the key driver in anomalous weather patterns. But since there is currently no better explanation, and changes in weather patterns appear to be a bad thing, it seems crass to not do everything possible to reduce the human-derived sources.
"...this most excellent canopy, the air—look you, this brave o'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire—why, it appears no other thing to me than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapors..."

Over 4.5 billion years old and in two hundred or so years since the industrial revolution we've irrecoverable damaged it ?
The climate has always changed, and no doubt, will always change.
We are damaging the environment and need to change our ways speedily, that is generally agreed.
I'm no scientist and can only base my views on what I read.
From what I've read the causes are what is debatable.

Humans are producing more greenhouse gases due to our lifestyles we ARE making the problem worse. The fact that nature adds to greenhouse gases (volcanoes etc) just makes it worse still. It's not a binary issue! Both are very much a factor. So common sense says we should be trying to do something about it for our children's future and for the survival on this planet. The more important question is are we doing anything individually to help, or just using the binary argument to excuse the damage we are causing day by day? Our leaders can help by leading by example.

On one hand it could be amusing to just see the whole planet blow up. Gaze at the red core for a few seconds. You could try and work out what the mantle is, spot volcanic tubes, and see Asia and Europe definitely heading off in other directions. It would certainly take a few people unawares, especially those asleep in bed. Imagine waking up and you are whizzing past the Moon.

We do what we can, replaced last diesel with a petrol car, only make necessary journeys in car and even then combine trips instead of nipping to town for the odd screw and bolt a few times a day. I go on my bike when I can, shame that swmbo can't ride any more. Minimise on our heating, only the room we are in. We have solar on the roof, doing its bit.Turn off sockets /chargers not in use. Our next car will probably be a phev of some sort, most of our journeys would then be electric. We need more power to tow the caravan, even that is sub 750kg, we downsized to a tiny Freedom 2 berth a few years back.
I really must get round to sewing the "virtue" badges on my sleeve, there'll be more than I had in the cub scouts. 😂😂😂😂

I’m guessing il be the last one on here that’s done this? 😀 I think it's more about making unnecessary trips and buying crap we don't really need. I did a carbon footprint comparison between living on my boat and an average house. The boat came out much better. I think we covered the hypocrite thing earlier in the thread. Personally I think it's better for the environment to try and do something about it and be a bit of a hypocrite than do fuck all....
