So I’ve been thinking of buying some lifepo4 batteries, but I’ve not really sorted a satisfactory way to charge from alternators. So the question is do I really want to be on the bleeding edge of technology? It usually proves to be exspensive being an early adopter. Until a tried and tested solution is evident I’m not sure.

This is my thinking with lifepoos. All batteries are disposable commodities, they have a lifespan, albeit quite short if a ccer. The price and technology is just not there at the moment, and I struggle to find them cost effective.

The good thing is agm's have dropped considerably in price, and I think they are the best value for money at this moment in time.

I hate to say so, but there are threads over on the light side that explore this subject in laborious detail and where the successful operators specify exactly how they have managed it.

I suppose I might go and have a look. You wouldn’t have any links would you? Save me trawling through all the crap.

Both JohnV and myself have LifePo4s two years for me now, I wouldnt go back to LAs in any form as they are a waste of space, until you have had these batteries you will never understand the benefits like John and I do. John a neighbour has four of these on his boat, his alternator only charges at 13.8 volts which makes them ideal for the 20-80% SOC that is perfik for these batteries
