I've met him and consumed his beer on his boat. Obviously not at liberty to discuss his SIS status at this point.

Self-imposed yes, perhaps, but it was Donkey who started the Poll. It does seem that not a lot changed during 4 weeks. TB been here almost 4 years - now there's a thought.

Is Donkey still around, then? Even I get a bit lost with around 15 resurrections! Did he honour the 4-week stayaway? Still around occasionally. Didn't post for well over 4 weeks. Busy job hunting now so unlikely to become a regular poster again - life moves on...

Donβt be put off by some of the YouTube videos that dramatise the Ribble Link. I found it quite straightforward in our relatively underpowered boat, and you should see the state of some of the boats that make the crossing. If the boat is well maintained just keep to an rpm that you know will not over stress things and you will be fine.
How you progress it dependent on lots of factors. As an example, in our case going up there was a lot of fresh on the Douglas, so the net result with the tide against us and the glow with us was the flow won, and we initially did 6mphcdiwn the Douglas rather than struggling to make headway against the tide. The end result was it was only as we approached Savick brook on the Ribble that the tide was turning against us, so we had to wait a long time on the pontoon for the level to drop before progressing up Savick brook.
