Moving on - (rather than create a new thread), What about mooring in Coventry basin for a few days? good idea? The run in from Hawkesbury Jn to the basin is fairly grim, but the actual basin is OK. We moored there overnight a few years ago, very quiet. Pretty much spot on. Loads of rubbish in the cut on the way in, also lots of floating coconuts. Most of the canalside trees seem to bear fruit consisting of dog turds in blue plastic bags. However, the basin itself is pleasant enough and only a short walk to the motor museum, which offers free entry.

My daughter is in Uni in Coventry coming to the end of her second year. I have yet to have visited the canal. I must rectify that soon Surprised, but has she? Basin's worth a visit when illuminated x Not to my knowledge, we keep saying we will visit the next time I’m up there but the rain defeats us!

As everyone else says, top lock is ok but staring at the old factory with smashed windows can be a bit depressing, between locks 5 and 6 is perfect for the station but if lots of boats go one way and not the other then the pound can drop a bit, Barry Hawkins yard (Baddsley basin) is good but not sure if they will allow short terms, maybe if they have spaces they might, can pm you his wifes mobile number if you need it.
Cov basin is fine for a couple of days, you do get the polish piss heads sitting on the benches drinking and there is a live music venue which kicks out early hours on the weekend, in my fours years of using the five and half I have never been down the weed hatch but you do get a fair of rubbish near the middle section.
I think the motor museum is no longer free entry.

I think the motor museum is no longer free entry. Just checked and this is correct, it's now £14 admission for adults.

FOURTEEN QUID ! That's a hell of a leap from nothing. We've been twice and thoroughly enjoyed our visits ... at £28 for us to have gone I'm not certain we'd have bothered. I was expecting some sort of token charge like a fiver Rog

I, like many others, put paper money in the bucket on the desk as I left.
Like dogless, I would NEVER have paid that.
Shortsighted or what....?

You can come and inspect our three bus engines in Kannus garage. Would £2 be a suitable admission charge? If you want to see motor cars for free, why not just pop into any dealership, pretending you're after a new jam jar.
