All I can say is that I think it's lovely that most people want to help.

I want to be a world dominating creative writing author. Nothing wrong with that Andrew...but please lose the dominating bit and replace it with 'sharing'

Funny you should say bilge pump. I have a manual switch on the bilge pump with an LED to show it's on. The LED needs replacing. I turned the engine off today and could hear a strange noise ... stuck my head out to see what it was and realised it was inside the boat ! Lifted engine boards to discover it was coming from there, when Jane shouted "Why's the bilge pump running ?" Doh ! Must have caught the switch Must get that LED replaced. Rog

Given the thought that has been put into the design of the boat, I would think it is linked up to lock mechanisms. So when the lock is ready for you to enter the green light will illuminate to show you can go ahead

Could it just be to tell you the green light is on? I would be able to accept that theory if I had ever seen it illuminated. Well, it is operating correctly. It's not lit, indicating the switch is off. Wasted ££ skule!

Rog Reminded me of the first boat we hired the Petite Gem from Richardson's of Stalham. We were puzzled by a strange noise even though everything was turned off. Couldn't raise the boat yard so decided to have a look myself. Lifted the deck boards in the cabin and found the bilge pump running because a bit of wood was jamming the float switch. From the state of it in the bilge it would seem that whenever any work was done the debris was just swept into the bilge Phil

Could be it should illuminate when either engine is running and the bulb has gone O/C.

Could be it should illuminate when either engine is running and the bulb has gone O/C. That seems quite probable. Time to get behind it and check the lamp.

Bilge pump or water pump indicator? No installed bilge pumps but that reminds me it could be for the stern tube oil pump which is not installed. Boat has "double" stern gear with a dual lip seal "boxes" at the back which would usually be pressure fed with oil from a tank in addition to greased stern tubes further forward. The oil pump system is on board but not connected. Possibly because of previous use on inland waterways and those systems are net oil loss arrangwments so the boat would have an oil slick behind it. A bit naff on the River. It's similar to lifeboat stern gear. I bet that's what it is, the stern tube oil pump.
