Even more anti-climactic than new years eve... It's Feb 1st today. Does this mean Brexit has happened? I thought it was next Jan 1st. All I know is that Boris said he'd done a 'deal' and I thought no-one voted for a 'deal' you Etonian thug who arranged for your mates to send round low-life to beat up journalists who have exposed their scams, and I read on-line that it's actually Theresa May-the-Traitor's old deal just warmed up a bit. Does this mean that from today everyone in the UK can completely ignore any rules/regulations imposed by the EU over the years? No UK Government personnel working for the EU any more? They've all been sent packing from the Reichstags of Brussels and Strasbourg? Will the UK Government be telling Deutsche Bahn, Abellio, Transdev, etc. to piss off and hand over the running of trains on Briish railways to British companies? The Finnish Government has murmured something about new residence permits for Brits living in Finland around 1st Jan 2021, although I bet nothing will really happen there - Finland had agreements with the UK before Finland even joined the EU, and all Finns living in the UK would have to get new residence permits too. Tell you what - if they charge us, say, 50 Euros for a new piece of paper, let's charge the Finns 250 for theirs! We can now do as we please. Suitable Christmas present for all 'Remainers'.

I didn't "celebrate" as such ....... it wasn't that kind of event. I opened a bottle of very good English fizz at 11pm and toasted a new beginning. (I must confess to a slight feeling of satisfaction that we have stopped ? well at least limited, the decades of steady downward creep towards a totalitarian state) The irony of your last sentance, Just wait and see what this government does, I believe we are sliding towards being a totalitarian state with no help from Europe. Illegally proroguing parliament, lying to the Queen and country, you can hear the Whoosh as the irony of it all whizzes by the Quitters.

. So... you've changed your mind and see the politicians of the EU as nothing than a balloon filled with helium? I should print that picture out and add some choice words and stick copies up in suitable locations. Still.... I suspect not a lot will really happen apart from money shifting from bank to bank account as politicians and business people scrabble to try and make as much out of this situation as they can, and come up with new schemes in which to stuff the hard-working, tax-paying British public. There's not much to celebrate - just got rid of some shit off the shovel, that's all - Westminster and the House of Lords are filled with our own home-grown shit - when are those stables going to be mucked out?

Still, if I may borrow part of a post put up a couple of years ago on TB, I can take comfort in the fact that you are old and will soon be dead.

Huawei and 5G comes to mind. Is your phone a Huawei? If so, the Chinese have probably got enough on you already to send you to a re-education camp in Xinjiang Province.

Well, the numpty still doesn't get it, "Now we can do as we please". Stupid fox. Cake with jam and lashings of cream, and we get to eat it too. Trade deals don't work like that, perhaps* we should send a pack of 2 year old to negotiate. "it's mine by right I want it all and I want it now" while jumping up and down, stamping feet and wailing. Swiftly followed by "it's not faaaiiir" when they dont get their way.
*I suspect we already have Boris and Dominic lined up...

For the first time EVER ... I implore @gazza to step in. LET IT GO Jim ! Neither you nor I, nor anyone else knows what's going to happen ... it's all speculation. The sun's shining, the planet's doomed anyway, and we're all going to die of flu. Rog

Oh, you are right there, It is all speculation, wishes dressed up as fact. You aren't the only nieve fool thinks its finished, done and dusted. No -there's the fasterest besterest traderest deals to be done, with everyone falling over to give us what we want at their expense. A few years to go yet lad.
Chlorinated hormone and antibiotic riddled chicken, anyone?

"What happened at 11pm last night is just a mere first or second hurdle, but I think the hard part is only just beginning, despite spending almost 4 years trying to find a negotiating deal not only with the EU but with the two Houses as well!
I don’t trust Boris any more than I trusted Maybot. He will bottle it or fall on his sword and let some other twat take over the mantle.
As a Remainer (who accepted the Referendum result with good grace), I feel rather ambivalent, but I can’t help feeling Leavers are going to be stitched up with something completely half-baked and full of subtle caveats.
I just don’t see the Establishment, and those with massive vested interests, ever wanting to fully leave the EU. And as such will do everything they can to skewer any deals during the *how long is a piece of string?” transition period."

Chlorinated hormone and antibiotic riddled chicken, anyone? Vegetables and lettuce sold in Finland already washed with chlorine, thanks. Who knows what conditions are like in Lithuanian and Bulgarian abbattoirs? Not very nice, I expect.

"Come on all you anti-EU people in Italy, France and Poland and elsewhere. We’ve fought and won, we’ve made the home run from the seemingly escape proof Colditz. So can you. We’ve kicked away some of the foundations, now it’s up to you to bring this whole stinking edifice crashing down to the ground. Get fucking going if you really don’t want to wake up one morning and find that you’re a permanent prisoner of The Fourth Reich. Now it’s your turn!"
