Rog Yeah she's on a long one and from memory (I've not been on cruise since the Fyords for my 40th) internet on board costs a flipping fortune... she does right keeping offline... leaves her more money to spend on wine and toyboys!

I'm sure they have WiFi on board the Hurtigruten ferries/ships - they have web cams on them so you can look any of them up right now on your computer/mobile phone and see the view from their fronts. We live in Scandinavia and our ADSL via phone line (hard connection) costs just 34 Euros/month for unlimited amounts of bits (Elisa) - and we've seen an offer this morning for 22 Euros for the same from the rival company (Telia). Internet shouldn't be expensive in Scandinavia - and you go into libraries in Sweden and Norway and want to use a computer and they say "there's one, use that" and none of this ridiculous having to join a library so you don't have to pay £2 for 30 minutes like in the UK. www.cruisin.me/cruise-ship-webcams/hurtigruten/

WiFi and internet is readily available on board most cruise lines but is extremely costly, likewise mobile phone use aboard is prohibitively expensive When Chris is cruising she waits till she is ashore before ringing me, I am an avid webcam watcher, have seen people who Chris described but never saw actually saw her. it is the cost that's prohibitive - a long while ago, when I was working as an IT tutor for learn direct, I had to "check in" each day whilst on a transatlantic (no one to cover my students) and it added circa 500 quid to the cabin account for a few mins a day. I suspect they might offer packages now but knowing how money orientated these corporations are, I doubt it would be in the guest's favour.

Yes they do offer packages but as Chris was checking it out she said something like "Kinnel!! I'd rather try to spend that on booze" knowing that despite not being a lightweight she would be unable to put away that much booze. Phil

Anyway I miss patty. She's been gone a while now. Let's hope all is well. It seems more than one cruise ship in the far East is having problems. This one has been refused docking despite having no cases of the virus on board .. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-51484625Finally allowed to anchor off Cambodia and arrange for passengers to fly home via their airport.

This virus is going to have serious repercussions across the globe. Obviously it’s tragic when people die, but I’m thinking more about the financial side of it. My son works for a company that relies on Chinese products. They will start to run low on stocks in a couple of weeks. My daughter works for Next. Several of her suppliers have started to run out of products. Sons girlfriend is a flight attendant for BA. She came back from Kuala Lumpur 3 days ago. No problems for her but her mum, who works for Lloyds bank has been given 2 weeks off, was told she is a potential health hazard because her daughter was in a high risk area. Triumph motorcycles are struggling with their supply chain from Asia. Next doors neighbours brother, a JLR employee sent home from China. It’s concerning how reliant we have become on China.

It has been postulated for some time by some academics that too much globalization could make the whole of civilization unstable and liable to a total collapse. There are historians that blame the dark ages on the dependence of the civilized world on Roman international trade and the Justinian plague (yes another pandemic) which contributed greatly to the empires collapse. What is the saying ? "people who ignore history are doomed to repeat it"

I feel that it would be a Good Thing if humans were knocked down a bit. If it meant I died of a virus then I would view that as a positive.
Yes life is precious in theory but there are too many humans about and it is high time that a major correction took place.
The great thing with a virus like this is that if it was unleashed properly it would take out the less productive and less healthy humans leaving behind a selection of fit and healthy creatures to face the new world order.
Or something
ETA the problem is humans are so bloody adaptable and durable it probably won't work and something far more unpleasant will happen like wars which have a nasty habit of killing the fit and healthy specimens !!
