I think the best thing for humans to do at this point is to exterminate all other mammals and birds. They are presenting as potential threats. It appears that this covid19 thing came from mammals or birds. Previously viruses have been mammal and bird related. We have the capability to kill all of them quite easily. It's not particularly complicated to do this. Worth keeping the insects but mammals and birds and arguably fish also could all be completely wiped out to the benefit of humans. And yes I do include cats and dogs in this, and I am afraid to say also hedgehogs. A lot of pain for a massive gain and a chance of survival. Apart from anything else they are nicking our oxygen

ETA is eating live monkey brains more or less weird than eating a burger made from the brains of a cow that was fed with the unsaleable remnants of another cow? Yes, because they are live and wriggly and warm and you are eating its soul before it has a chance to escape to Monkey Heaven. Also weird to enjoy slicing off the top of its skull and to enjoy hearing it scream as you do so. Still.... is eating the meat of dead animals 'natural'? Is live better?

There is a sometimes ghoulish element to the menu...the more exotic the item the better...if it is considered rare...things like that. It seems partly about being seen to be able to afford the most expensive items (like whole suckling pig). Do oysters have souls? Do they like being digested alive? Oysters are yummy. Eating animals is ok, but freshly dead is my usual preference.

The director of the Yutani bio-weapons division gave me his personal assurance he has no knowledge of the virus just last week. But my pet hamster told me he was lying. This whole episode is as natural as the BSE event. ETA is eating live monkey brains more or less weird than eating a burger made from the brains of a cow that was fed with the unsaleable remnants of another cow? Yes it bloody is. Phil

"Ultimately, their lack of knowledge or preparation against any bacteria indigenous to Earth, causes their destruction here" From War of the Worlds. Humans have 'earned' their right to live on the Earth, having had to battle against the genes of other species since life first arose on this planet. A billion and a half years to get where we are today. Living in symbiotic harmony with the microbes inside us and many outside of us. We have a long history behind us. From the moment the invaders arrived, breathed our air, ate and drank, they were doomed. They were undone, destroyed, after all of man's weapons and devices had failed, by the tiniest creatures that God in his wisdom put upon this Earth. By the toll of a billion deaths, man had earned his immunity, his right to survive among this planet's infinite organisms. And that right is ours against all challenges, for neither do men live, nor die, in vain. I grew up the wrong way, heard Jeff Wayne’s war of the worlds prior to reading the book. Not listened to Jeffs version for ages, it will be the music that I cook our valentines meal to tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me of it.

Phil The attitudes of Chinese people to dogs and cats is appalling - kept in nets with their limbs broken prior to sale for food. Some contend that the monkey brains thing is a myth but it probably isn't. However its ridiculous to assert this brand of callousness is the preserve of one culture. Food production here in the west is just as horrific but it goes on behind closed doors. Every so often an abattoir worker is prosecuted for unnecessary cruelty but I expect its just the tip pf the iceberg. Also, I once saw a video of a wild cat of some sort being literally skinned alive for a) its pelt and b) entertainment.

Yes it bloody is. Phil . Some contend that the monkey brains thing is a myth but it probably isn't. It is unfortunately true. There are special circular tables with a hole in the center for the head to poke through and clamps underneath to hold the unfortunate animal. These restaurants charge fantastic prices, main business is from corporate clients showing off to one another about how much money they spend. Once experienced, the horror never leaves you.

If the subject was a large fish do you think it would be more or less bearable to watch?

I don't think our patty 's going to be impressed with this discussion. Even cruise ships have WiFi these days. Her absence is becoming somewhat concerning.
