We went to collect some more firewood yesterday afternoon and I thought I'd see what I could make of it through the eye of the camera. Not my best effort, just some random nonsense. There are still a lot of trees already downed, that we felled last year, but many are stuck to the ground by ice. We think the first job is to remove those before they rot (it'll take 3 years for that to happen) and lose their heat value. Now we have two trailer loads from this week which is about 4 hours cutting-into-logs time. We'll do that out the back when we feel like it, but there's nowhere to store them just yet as one 'cage' has been uprooted and we're transferring that to the other side of the garden at a further distance from the house (fire regulations - 8 metres from the house) - and we can't erect it yet as the ground is frozen until around August. Up early tomorrow to catch the sunrise and go for a walk in unknown territory - I see on the maps a link between the River Viirre valley and our Lestijoki river valley, going to explore that. Pirkko is now scared of meeting a wolf - I said I'd kick it in the teeth. Then she said what about a bear? So we'll take a big stick along too. Talk to the bears. Shout "hey bear" as you frolic in the woods with Pirrko. Then you don't startle them. Or just walk 2m behind her.

We left the car at the sports field/track in Himanka and walked to Meksinkallio (kallio = rocky outcrop). I've never been there before. Good spot for picnics. And there's a 'bird tower' there which you can climb to... well... do some bird spotting I suppose. I got a couple of timelapses which I can use later, and these with my cellphone (colours better on phone than on my computer screen): from the bird observing tower icy foreshore

At Rahja harbour. Took 2 pics of a little wooden boat for Magnetman - up later. Camera now on 30 min timelapse. Probably enough light for another after that. -2 Centgrade, dropping to -5 for morning, snowed last night and more snow tonight.

Looks better on my cellphone screen.... Niskankoski a couple of hours ago. Just up the road from us. Yes, good hunch to go out as the snowstorm was passing - got a couple of reasonable timelapse videos, clouds tearing by and a 1-hour timelapse of Niskankoski as the sun went down. Quite pleased. And now... sauna! And beer!

Taken around 2130. Bitterly cold wind. Thinking of getting up early to catch the sunrise... hmmm.... that may mean leaving home at 0400.

Coronavirus update:
APR 24, 2020
The mayor of Osaka has come under fire for suggesting men should be the ones doing the grocery shopping during the pandemic because women are indecisive and “take a long time.”
Under the national state of emergency for the coronavirus, residents in some areas have been asked to shop less frequently and to send only one family member out to get supplies to minimize human contact.
Osaka Mayor Ichiro Matsui told reporters on Thursday that men should be entrusted with grocery runs because women “take a long time as they browse around and hesitate about this and that."

Very strange.... But true!
