Anyway at the end what are any of us going to do about it? Me I will continue burning Anthracite and wood in the Rayburn, plus kero in the bubble stove neither smokes so I should get away with it

But its mostly steam from wet fuel. A mix of smoke-less eggs and anthracite suits our squirrels just fine and smokes very little once hot. Does anybody ever lay their coal out in the sun to dry? I do. NURSE!!!! He's gone off again!

I always cut the tops off first and have the bags standing vertically in the cratch so the moisture can evaporate. If the sun is shining, spread it all out somewhere whilst you have your lunch nearby (because there are thieves about) and then gather it back into the bags. Nice 'n' dry for throwing into the stove.

Coming from the coal merchant ours is in fabric sacks not polythene, so no, condensation not present but we do leave it out in the rain. Really can't be bothered to dry coal, have you nothing better to do? Oh, you post here all the time so no, you haven't I suppose. Do you get bored with the posting?

Unusual for pre-pack coal to come in fabric bags, I've had pre-pack from coal merchants on and off for the last 50 odd years and its always been in plastic sacks. I was on mates terms with one local merchant, Pocklington, and even then 35 years ago they used plastic bags because it took seconds to whip them off the scales and heat seal the bag, whereas sewing took much longer and was fraught with danger from broken needles etc etc. Phil

And he carries them on his back, leather waistcoat, grip like a midwife.

I order a ton in October which with the wood is normally enough for the winter

Me electric boat, electric truck and electric car oh and unlike you I dont have a fire in the boat in summer because I like the smoke

The difference being that I admit to frittering away the Earth's resources for my pleasure. If we didn't fly here and there, who would give us a medal? Grab it whilst you can and before you're dead, say I. Everyone else is wasting fossil fuels, if I didn't use them a bit to enhance my life everyone else would just carry on as they were, so I might as well keep going as I am and have a bit of the action too. None of the kids I pick up and take to school would give a second thought to it if I were to die next week... so why should I worry about their futures?

I don't think you really believe that Foxy but what would this world be like to live in if everyone was as selfish as that? Before we came on this planet it survived fairly well for millions of years because most creatures lived in harmony with their surroundings, unlike most of us. It's always a good idea to look in a mirror sometimes and ask ourselves...what would life be like if everyone was like me?

Look around you. The only thing preventing most from going on a smash-and-grab spree is the threat of punishment. Here's a cheery song about some militant environmentalists.
