canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/17144-figure-of-three-locksI suppose it was always a "given" this will not be sorted out quickly but 12 months? ... SO the only route over the pennines is the L & L (assuming they actually get it opened again on schedule given al the winter works on the go) as figure of 3 effectively puts Rochdale and Huddersfield Narrow out of use from this end... Doomed....

I saw 18 months. I'd get it done in a week on my own... but the consultants, planners and private contractors need to spin this out to get the max profit. Trebles all round!

Get yourself down the the Kennet & Avon. It's nearer London so you can direct Japanese tourists straight from there - via Windsor Castle, perhaps? They have money, and aren't soap-dodgers like so many English people are.

How's Rotherham peterboat ? We saw the Kilnhurst flooding photos ... our house is at the top of the hill about half a mile away (up near the High House). Rog Its ok now but the Don is still moving fast, At kilnhurst it flooded badly the turbines were completely underwater dont know if its damaged them? but according to ian the water was deeper this time than in November!! its going down slowly but raining here today and for the next few days will send it skyrocketing as the ground is soaked, my mate Nev has to take a boat to Thorne and bring his own back but it aint happening anytime soon

The River Hull is up but much less than it has been lately ..... we missed the bullet this time.
The Ouse is up badly with the water still way over the top of the locks in Naburn so the George Dyson is still stuck there

Environment Agency flood defence barriers hold back the River Severn from flooding The Wharfage in Ironbridge. "Have our wonderful partners in the EU rushed to help us out? made funds available?"
"A Directive was issued by the European Parliament that we weren't to dredge our rivers and the Authorities interpreted it literally. We are now paying the price!"

Near where one of my boats is there is an enormous crane and some heavy civil engineering work going on by the river.
I asked a local old dear about it and she said it was an EU directive about Eels.
And there I was thinking it was the start of another flood alleviation scheme planned for the area.
As for the Thames, Taplow Weir is currently discharging 100 cumecs into the Jubilee River (Windsor and Maidenhead bypass channel).
100 cumecs was the maximum reading at Taplow during the Christmas flooding. Not particular serious flooding but if it goes up much more it could get quite interesting.
My favourite boat is currently downstream of the outlet so it's hit by all of that water. Really flying along makes me want to have some sort of water driven generator get a bit of power off it.
