Well the good thing was I managed to save some of the equipment including a 240v Klaxon horn and other quality items.
The bad thing was that the people who were clearing out the boat shed were scrapping an awful lot of really nice stuff.
I'm not in a position to load up with all the gear but the amount of quality bronze boat parts going to scrap was tear jerking.
Was not aware in advance it was just random I was there at the time.
A big shed previously owned by someone who liked retaining good boat parts.
It was too late by the time we arrived most of it was in the pickup. Lucas boxes everywhere.
Never mind I got some nice bits for free including a very pleasant mains operated Klaxon old school type of thing.
And other bits.
They binned some really nice things but due to the timing there was not a lot which could be done.

Could you turn it into a job opportunity? Sort of thing I would imagine you would be good at, turning other people's boating junk into saleable items.

I knew what everything in there was for and it was all good stuff but I'm not 'geared up' to deal with it. The old geyser also had a MFV which I remember being the perfect boat about 20 years ago. It's still moored at the yard. Sunk. The EA are going to take it away and scrap it. I definitely missed my vocation I sent a message to the Bates StarCraft owners club about the gear that was stored upstairs. Loads of chromed bronze fittings, hardwood parts and spare engine bits probably for the old petrol engines. All new. Labelled. In boxes. And the bloke taking over the shed wanted it all gone asap. scary. I would have filled the car to the rafters but I don't have anywhere to store this sort of thing.

How about taking over that chandlery in Reading, Maggers? Ideal for you! On the Thames, and fiddling with boaty bits. And out of Londonistan.

I managed to save this wonderful item It's as good as new. I will be putting this on top of the wheelhouse for the workboat look. Motorised rotating lamp none of yer modern rubbish it's even got lenses over the lamp. Marchal. Made in France. Quite embarrased about the scrap truck now. A lot of really good shit went in there which is quite rude. I did pay the bloke for a couple of things including a very very nice boat hook on a long shaft. That was worth a score. The as new Johnson electric outboard was worth a score as well. Like I said to the bloke I'm not here to buy and sell I'm here to buy for me. But I was unaware of the situation beforehand to be fair. No idea it was happening.

I'm still coughing from going up on the rafters as there was also a lot of fibreglass matting about which always screws with my breathing.
I'm sure they will have scrapped the rest of the stuff by now. They were definitely on a mission. I did offer to take the safe away but the man with the yellow high vis who needed to muck out the horses said he was having that.
I bet there is nothing in it.

This little boat hook says it all for me. I managed to save it from the scrap. I know it's unusual for someone to want such a small boat hook but it is indicative of a bigger picture. Its a perfect item. If you wanted a tiny boathook you would never be able to find this. The scrap truck was full of things like that and I feel sad to have witnessed it.

I think youβll find that isnβt a boat hook, itβs a fanny-scratcher.

Actually looks like the sort of hook used for pulling down shop blinds , a true boat hook has a straight end with a ball on it and a more pronounced hook on the side . Phil
