As Iβm about to move onto a marina just for the year due to work commitments then off CC I just wanted to ask those of you who live in a marina do you use the marina facilities ie showers laundry wc etc or do you use the your boats and why?

Without being funny Martin we have no facilities at our marina so I use the boat for everything, When out and about I think I could count on one hand the number of times I have used showers! Thats only because I was on a mates cruiser with no shower! I bought a widebeam boat with big bathroom and I fitted a washing machine because its very convenient to do it on the boat, I dont want to walk to a shower block to find they are all full/out of order or to filthy! Your boat is your home so use it as such

Yes we have never used the facilities at our marina. They seem to be clean enough but why would you go out to have a shower and shit when you can do it in the comfort of your own home? Marina = shore hookup =plenty of hot water from the immersion. I donβt think our marina has a launderette but we have a washing machine on board anyway. I regard the facilities only as an emergency backup should something happen to our loo / shower / hot water etc So far in 9 years, not been needed.

20 years living aboard and we have never used any facility other than those on the boat. Your boat is your home so treat it as such. Phil

It must depend on your attitude to washing.
I've never moored in a marina or used any shared showers but I am a bit of a soap dodger anyway.
I feel uneasy about the shared shower situation because of the nasty little bacteria which might hang around.
That would be enough to put me off.

We have stayed in quite a few marinas on our travels, but the laundry is usually the only facility we use.
But they're available to you, and from the looks of this thread largely unused, so whatever suits you.
A lot will depend on which marina.

I dont want to walk to a shower block to find they are all full/out of order or too filthy! Usually filthy. The Great British camp site. Athlete's Foot free for all. Other moulds are available.

It depends on what facilities you have against what facilities you need.
On Sabina everything is on board however on Shapfell (a small elderly yoghurt pot) you need shore facilities, there is only so long I am prepared to go without a shower, (stripwashes are better than nothing but only just)
any laundry etc must be shore based ..... as I say it's about what you have versus what you need
(One of my many beefs with CRT are the disappearing shower facilities round the system, in some areas now you are forced to go to a marina for them)

I have never seen any filthy showers in the marinas we have visited (usually very new, clean, and rarely used) but have never used them because we can shower on board so much easier. If the shower block was clean, and right outside my marina berth, I would no doubt use them, but it can be half a mile or more walk to them, which isn't very convenient, or warm at this time of year Rog

(One of my many beefs with CRT are the disappearing shower facilities round the system, in some areas now you are forced to go to a marina for them) Foxy's Top Tip of the Day: why not pop into a swimming pool or fatness gym for a shower? Usually these places are cleaner than the average 'facilities'. Don't forget some of our less civilised immigrants tend to wash their feet in washbasins, so next time you fill one up with the intention of washing your face, remember someone's scabby feet with overgrown toenails could have been plunked into that very washbasin.

I use the sauna, jacuzzi and Olympic sized swimming pool on my mooring and take advantage of the valet parking service.

Never used the showers in our marina, but when staying short term in others we have done. Just do what works at the time.
Some marinas have very nice facilities that donβt get used much.

I've got to admit, I probably stoped off half a dozen marinas last year between guests (for the shoreline and water at berth to make a change over easier) and I didn't use the facilities... other than to exchange some books.
They've all been clean enough - it's SO very British to "check" even if you have no intention of using them lol.

I haven't used the showers at Overwater(which always do look sparkly clean),but I love the sign which states that they are not to be used to shower dogs! *Does that mean it's okay to shower other animals?π€
