I was looking at an ex-police LE as my first bike but I was lured away by the thoughts of power, so I spent my birthright on a second hand Triumph Tiger Cub (T20) Oh the lure of the speed .........70 !!!! ........ well that's what the speedo claimed..... On a long run it used to sometimes just stop for no apparent reason ......... other times it was more obvious, because you could see the bit that had come off lying in the road behind you. I honestly reckon, that even now, you could put all the dis-assembled bits of a Tiger Cub engine in a sack and I could rebuild it, in the sack, without looking inside.

I seem to remember the LE speedo show 70 mph absolute best I ever got from memory was a touch over 60.

And the Susuki AP50, a slightly more portly FS1E for the less vulgar teenager.

Just remembered my AJS 250cc vibro massaging heap of shite, a yawning gulf between 2nd and 3rd meant you had to rev it until your hands tried to slide off the handlebars and your vision blurred, then you stamped it into top when it sounded like it was going to stall. It was the shortest time I ever had a motorcycle, I picked it up from the shop in Ongar and rode it to Southend-on-Sea (30 miles?) on that leg the front number plate and the choke lever fell off. On the return run, one of the stays for the rear mudguard snapped and one of the foot pegs came loose. About 2 miles from home (Brentwood) the carburettor fell off. I pushed the bloody thing back to my parents house. I bolted the carb back on the next morning tied the various broken parts onto the back and rode back to the shop and returned the heap of shit and demanded an exchange. (got an Aerial Arrow, chalk and cheese compared to the AJ even if in those days people looked at the Aerial sideways because of it's odd design)

Just remembered the Puch Maxi step-through. I had one of those, a Puch Maxi S (the luxury version with rear suspension), I can still remember the registration number, JHX 72K. This was it, about 1975. And here's my K4 and my Austin Somerset, about 1983.

Is it worthwhile asking Delta9 to either rename this thread or split the motorbike posts from about page 3 onwards into a new motorbike thread, since that's what the majority of the posts in this thread is about now?

Why? if there was still anything to still say about the original subject, people would still be discussing it.

We like to keep the original thread title as it lures CWDF members & mods - and lets the air out of their balloon when they see it's (still) about motorbikes

No it doesn't matter, I just thought if the motorbike related posts were in a motorbike thread they might attact more posts. Mind you, Foxies post above has definite appealπ

Against the run of play, Foxys approach has merit.

My LC, not long after i first had it, it now has a pair of new old stock genuine pipes and baffles on it. Its Buried at the back of the garage so no current pics I'm afraid.
Capri in the background was my first car, leaf green 1.6l that kept it's original paint but ended up much modified - the Capri did for year round motorcycling, girls much preferred riding about in that than on the back of a bike - even in 1997!
lol The girls always preferred a ride in a car to the back seat of a car bike:) even back in 1961/2. They loved the leather seats in my Austin A40 Somerset - censored -
