Do you need to go back to bare metal if you're using keelblack or can it go over existing blacking.

they claim you can go over existing blacking - same rules apply re rusty bits and fertan but I think I'll just wire wheel any bits like that to bare metal and slap it on - like I said it can't be any worse than the existing poor stuff - the 1st coat went on when it was craned out and lorried to here before going back into the water wet - the 2nd time it was done badly (imho) so THIS time, at least I can ensure I've done my best - if it lasts 2 years, I'll be better off than I was last time.

The fertan has to be washed off, it's just a rust eater not an undercoat.

The best antirust stuff I have come across in recent times is Flag rust converter (and you don't have to wash it off rust )
