'Meanwhile, the chancellor is expected to scrap a subsidy on diesel used by the farming and construction sector in an effort to encourage a switch to greener alternative fuel vehicles and help the UK meet its climate change targets. Rishi Sunak is set to announce in next week's budget that red diesel - so-called because it is marked with a dye - will no longer attract a lower fuel duty. It currently accounts for about 15% of total diesel sales in the UK and costs the Treasury about £2.4bn a year in revenue.'

Does that mean people who use Gasoil aka red diesel to run their heating are going to see massive increases in their bills?

That's not going to be popular but I suppose it is fairly easy to convert a lot of heaters to use 28sec oil instead.

Last i heard farms were going to be exempt maybe thats changed? looks like boating on diesel is going to be expensive from now on Won’t make a huge difference. Assuming the worst that diesel doubles it’s price(unlikely) then itl cost me maybe £500 extra per year. Most boaters it’ll be more like a couple of hundred quid. Nothing in the boat world is it? I am more concerned about the petrol changes coming in, e5 to e10. I can see my old bikes ending up in my lounge as decoration. A reminder of better times. Times like these make me thankful that I grew up when I did.

I think Germany has this system.

I will be looking at converting to solid fuel if the bill doubles.

Eberspacher used for 1 hr in morning on very cold days then diesel bubble stove used throughout the day on most winter days (turned off overnight), engine running for battery charging about 2 hrs a day on average during the winter. Gets through about 60 litres a week during the winter. Much much less during summer.
Was expecting to get bill down to about 1.5k this year as have got more used to the boat and won't be cruising so much - still a heavy chunk of money though.

Then I apologise for being inconsiderate. I hope that the changes will allow for some kind of heating rebate.

Will this drive people to changing back to burning wet wood ?
This issue is one of many being circulated as possible choices the Chancellor can take.
We have no power to change what will happen, so perhaps the wisest course is to wait and see what surprises the budget holds.

The more 'chatter' on the web about the decisions of our Gov is for the better in my opinion. Whilst no one from the Gov (other than mm is monitoring this site) I'm sure one of the reasons why these things are leaked is to gauge the public opinion on the subject before an announcement is made.
