Won’t make a huge difference. Assuming the worst that diesel doubles it’s price(unlikely) then itl cost me maybe £500 extra per year. Most boaters it’ll be more like a couple of hundred quid. Nothing in the boat world is it? I am more concerned about the petrol changes coming in, e5 to e10. I can see my old bikes ending up in my lounge as decoration. A reminder of better times. Times like these make me thankful that I grew up when I did. It will make a massive difference to me - last year my diesel bill was about 2k - most on heating. I will be looking at converting to solid fuel if the bill doubles. Wow. My 3 bed link detached house costs £1400 for all gas and electric.

Living where I do though would cost me about £800 a month (for a 1 bed flat overlooking the water) or about 400k to buy - so not all bad...

Can you fit a second tank for Kero? I have and its much cheaper than diesel I'll wait to see what happens. Doubt there will be any canal side sellers of kero for some time yet. In the meantime I live next to an old woodland with many months of old fallen trees that might come in useful... Despite having fitted two tanks in Parglena in 2004 in preparation for losing Red I removed the Old Dutch stove in about 2008, the cost of the new stove and fitting it were paid for by the first years fuel savings. When I sold it in 2012 it still had a Eber and a small diesel stove in the back cabin but the solid fuel County 4 did most of the heating the Eber coming on for 2 hrs in the morning to heat water and bathroom. Oh and my tanks were 800L heating 600L propulsion so discounts were available.

Living on a boat is cheap (if you try harder?). Our total fuel bill - gas, elec, solid fuel and diesel is about 1/3 of your diesel bill. Are you sat about in your undercrackers with the heat on full? We have a diesel webasto and rads too, but after fixing it, we NEVER use it, because it costs 4x as much as solid fuel heating in my experience. Diesel heating is convenient and clean but you pay heavily for that.

Are you sat about in your undercrackers with the heat on full? Certainly not! Although my down filled onesie does come in useful whilst scrapping the ice off the inside of windows on a cold morning so I can wave at passers by. Any way Scary Flu has reduced oil prices so much I'll probably end up saving a fortune this year...

Then again I believe that pigs can fly.

It's already started going down Kris ....... Will it keep pace with the world price drop ? ..... well that's another matter

It's already started going down Kris ....... Will it keep pace with the world price drop ? ..... well that's another matter I’m sure it will drop a bit, but not to the extent that the price of crude has. That's because most of it is Tax £1.20 a litre, 58p fuel duty 24p VAT means that only 37p is the "cost" of the fuel, and out of that there is transport and distribution to pay. And yes you do pay VAT on the fuel duty.

And yes you do pay VAT on the fuel duty. Not to mention refinery costs. So a 20% drop in oil price is probably a penny or two. Budget soon and under the pretence of being green, 2p onto fuel, so back where we started......

Still, no shortage of money to buy fuel, is there? Typical motorway in England: All 'essential' journeys I'm sure. Few really care about 'the environment', only their own lives and comfort.

Not like you naughtyfox ... you won't be 'gas guzzling' concerned only for your own life and comfort Rog
