The colour of what goes into the tank has no real value. The split is the all important part which will not change, that is fact. The only point worth any sort of discussion at all is how they intend to manage that split. Given the recent views of HMRC, that will be done by the end user making a declaration and claiming back the domestic use. Which is what I said just before you “shot me down”. But I understand your frustration at unthinking hysteria from others.

I guess we'll all have to wait and see, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see, after lengthy debate, discussion, and consideration, that the existing system of self declaration continues. Of course other's crystal balls or tea leaves may suggest alternative end results Rog

I guess we'll all have to wait and see, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see, after lengthy debate, discussion, and consideration, that the existing system of self declaration continues. This is the ideal option for HMRC. They don't wish to incur costs above their present levels. It would defeat the object if monitoring costs outweighed the benefit of the increased duty collection. With the chancellor having to back away from taxing agriculture use, the issue has suddenly become a very small one. At the moment, the argument focuses on, and sits firmly with the supposed climate issues, but, there are other options that can be made available to combat that. HMRC recognises the minefield thanks to input from various sources, including iwa and the marina industry (with regards boating). Unlike the shouty over excitable chancellor, HMRC are treading a long but incisive approach.

I tend to agree @bedruthan ... if only because inertia and apathy general takes over and focus changes to other more pressing matters, so the status quo becomes the obvious next best thing ... but I wouldn't put money on either way ... we'll see Rog

"supposed climate issues" ffs. The people of the Severn, Calder and Don valleys should just suppose it's dry then? That will help them a lot. Oh to live in a bubble with unicorns.

I think he meant (as I suspect you know) the issues supposedly connected with climate change ... the issues were supposed not the climate change And I actually think he'll probably be proved correct down the line ... but we'll see in 2021. Rog
