Very windy here in Aberdeen last night. The duvet was flapping about all over the place. I think it was the lentil soup for lunch and Rogan Josh for dinner.

Wind can be a real pain when cruising, particularly when doing locks on your own. Even worse though is being moored up broadside to a strong blustery wind, rocking the boat all over the place.

Cruised to Wheaton Aston, and as I pulled out of the lock onto the water point I heard an alarm in the boat. Tied off and rushed inside to discover the boat full of smoke ... Jane had made the fire up earier and the service point there is very exposed with a very strong cross wind, causing massive blow back everytime the wind gusted. Quickly opened up, and emptied the coals into the metal ash pan ... of course also checked the flue and top plate. All was fine it was simply blowing back. We've moved to opposite the pub, which affords some shelter, and rebuilt the fire and all is okay (for now). I bloomin' well hate the wind ... as I am WANT to say But our excitement is nothing compared to JohnV and quaysider 's ... take care. Hope we can shake the wind off soon. Rog

Not to worry, soon you could be frozen in solid, no ropes required. Beastly weather, what?

After many years of loving a good blow for windsurfing and sailing, the irony of hating it now is not lost on me! Should see you soon Rog, in gnosall ATM.

Good to see you post aquarat ... it's been a while. Yes as I was writing the original post I was thinking it was ironic to be complaining about blow jobs ...but you win the prize for being the first to mention it Can't you rush up to Tyrley cutting and chase C&RT up on their threatened update ... we're waiting to find out if we need to turn around and go the long way to Hurlestone. Rog

Rog I've been self isolating mate, for 10years now. Tyrley news on the jungle drums is anything from a few day to a few weeks so make of that what you want! We out the water at start of April so should be ok for our bumbling.

Can you believe it ... I was on the phone to C&RT chasing news up at 1pm, and the guy told me an e mail had just gone out at 12.54pm saying Tyrley cutting was open. Onwards and upwards Rog

Travelling down Tyrley and Audlem locks is always MUCH pleasanter than fighting through the by wash to travel up them ... and saves on paint too By the way, we called at Wheaton Aston Spar for some bits ... including 4 loo rolls ... no problems and only £1 for four as well ... wonder if they over stocked and are flogging them off Rog
