I am no longer an M&S ready prepared meal 'virgin' ... and I have to say it was all rather splendid. Obviously not the same experience as dining out at a good eatery ... but certainly worth the extra money ... and it was particularly pleasant that neither of us needed to be over engaged in food preparation. Just as well really ... Brockman's gin aperitif ... bottle of the bubbles quaysider recommended from Aldi (and excellent it was too) and then I felt it would be rude not to have a cheeky whisky after coffee and before washing up ... Jane meanwhile was floating away on bubbles. Thanks for all the congratulations ... it was a very positive sort of day Rog

Sounds like it was a lovely evening 😀

ha!!! (my back is still fairly bad although improving slowly so the only sunshine I eill get is through the skylight) signed Mr Grumpy Ah, yes, I did read that earlier John. I'm really sorry about that and hope you recover soon. About 10 years ago I had severe back pain for over a year. It was actually a physio who helped me in the end. She explained that much of the problem is that many of us don't exercise the muscles which run down the middle of our backs. It's quite a difficult exercise to master but it's a bit like pelvic thrust except that you are trying to contract the muscles alongside your spine. The idea is that most of the weight should be transferred through these muscles rather than our spine (where discs may have shifted). I think the muscles, when they are stronger, also help to push the discs back in place. I'm not sure if that will help John as I don't know your full symptoms and I am no expert. Just to say it worked for me. I would imagine Mr Stabby has a healthy back with all of the pelvic thrusting he does... I too suffered from chronic back pain.
I walk the dogs for a couple of hours a day over rough ground and have made myself 2 short thumbsticks (about 3ft long) from shooting hazel branches and use them like I am Nordic walking. For the first couple of weeks I felt muscles pulling in the mid back that I never knew existed. Coincidentally the back pain went away.

Core strength ... just finished my daily stretches and exercises ... can't run these days but I can keep my back moving by doing these. Becomes a morning routine (put onto them by a physio in 2000). Rog Nearly - I believe it's more effective to do it every time it occurs to you - you'll find eventually that you do it automatically whenever you even remotely challenge your back. Doing the washing up for instance.

Lovely, watch the one bottom right, baby laughing at sneezes, adorable. I loved it when Mum gently caressed the baby face and its response, so sweet to watch.
Oh! it disappeared... this one:

Gotta love babies.
Mine are 7 and 9 now.
I always tell them the story about when I was a baby.
"When I was a baby...I was a baby".
Always good for a giggle.

Just earlier I was talking to the girls about getting a dog. I've had dogs in the past. Like dogs. Well actually mine were bitches. It occurred to me that getting two small dogs might be quite a good idea. Like a pair of jack russells or something. I prefer long dogs due to the potential food acquisition possibilities but a couple of those might be a bit bulky. Although to be fair a pair of whippet cross bitches might be a suitable hound solution

I think its a great idea, for you too.
(If you do get whippet types you do need two...trust me on this, especially if you have to leave to work.)

My mum had a pair of whippet X bitches. I had one but was not leaving her alone on the boat much. To be fair when I did she got upset. Its a good point She (the canine) was really good news. Had her for 16 years she died on my lap in the boat. The second (rescue) bitch I had was totally mental and attacked other dogs quite badly. I met a bloke who really wanted to have her as his dog and I let him take her because I couldn't deal with it. He cleaned her teeth, gave her a sofa in his flat and improved her behaviour, without violence. So that was okay. Might be time for a couple of puppies now.. never been a fan of getting puppies but I guess they will end up being less trouble and more of a personal thing. Rescue dogs are quite a risky thing. Kids would love puppies. Plus I'd do an outdoor kennel and keep them outside of the boat. They'd get used to it and be more independent.

If you do decide to get a dog, please get one from a rescue / adoption centre, and not a "puppy mill".

I thought about getting a dog but problem is we r on lockdown so cannot get anywhere...anyway I'm keeping my eyes open. I want small scruffy indeterminate breed..something that fits in with my lifestyle. Daughter against small breed cos says won't walk as far as I want to(or it may be that her retriever needs lots of exercise and I take that)... I shall probably get something totally inappropriate on a whim.....

perkwunos I agree with that on principle. However in my family of all the lurchers we have had, a total of 6 bitches, there was one puppy which my mother bought for £25 from pikeys in Lakenheath. Not a puppy mill. All the others were rescue dogs more than a year old. The pikey-bred puppy who my mum called Pyewacket was a much more interesting bitch than the others. She was a bitch in both senses. A very cool animal. I had two rescue bitches myself one of whom was perfect and stayed beside me for 16 years but the other was completely mental and I had to let her go to someone who could deal with her. I'd be interested in pikey-bred lurcher puppies to be honest. Not that bothered if they have white on them. I know it's bad for coursing due to the visibility but not a problem for a law abiding citizen. A rescue dog is obviously a good thing but if you want a bitch that will be your bitch and mould to your character you have to either be lucky with the rescue centre situation or get a pikey-bred lurcher puppy. My 2p.
