On our last trip to the boat, having been observing the water level of the River Kennet since Christmas, it was obvious we weren't going anywhere. Well, we had other things to do and it was a nice holiday all round anyway.
Some people have been pointing out that we don't need a CRT licence to be in the marina where we are. Yes, we knew that, but had intended to go boating at Christmas and in February. As we haven't been able to move, people have been suggesting we make a claim for some of our licence fee back. Yesterday I wrote to CRT and explained the situation and asked their thoughts on this. I thought they'd say that they'd refund April & May, as we plan to be on the water again in June.
However, of course, we can't know what's happening with this Covid-19 going around (and approaching our village, closer every day!). We could be dead by June. Our plane tickets could be meaningless if Finnair goes up the wall with all the other airlines, or air trafiic is stopped entirely by June. I've already had to cancel any thoughts of going to England at Easter, and our April trip to Japan is now cancelled.
Answer from CRT within 2 hours - refunding 9 months out of the 12, licence deemed stopped as of end of October (our last boating day was 19th Oct when we went to Devizes and back). That's fair - licence started 1st Aug, so that's Aug, Sept & Oct.
OK, if we enter the K&A in June we'll need a licence, but I'm sure that doesn't take long to arrange (as the insurance and BSS should be in place).
We are, of course, pleased with this no-nonsense solution from CRT's licencing team. As title says, credit where credit's due.
Here are some pics from our last trip in October, Newbury to Devizes and back (for anyone who may have missed them last time):
