What's this all about?
News outlets seem to be suggesting that half of the entire worlds population are being asked, or in some cases legally obliged, to suspend their normal lives for the foreseeable future.
Full-on overreaction or a specific plan ?
This is a field day for conspiracy theorists.
Just trying to get it out there before the telecoms breakdown.

I've read one post after another over the last few days by people worried sick about losing their jobs, their income and facing the prospect of losing their homes. There will be a devastating price to pay for the lockdown, quite probably far higher than from the virus itself.
The mistake which is being made, in my opinion anyway, is viewing it as some type of attack by an enemy power when in reality it is simply part of the natural cycle, and in my opinion nature should be allowed to get on with it so we can get it out of the way as soon as possible with as little disruption to everyday life as possible.
Yes, people will die and that is sad for their loved ones but we have extended the human lifespan to the point where those in the Autumn of their lives are older than ever before, and mass deaths during virus outbreaks should be expected to go with that territory.

It's that damn internet. Before that, ze authorities had a real easy time and could get away with words that didn't match their actions.

This is why I advised them to turn off facebook.
They'll get there eventually.
I always thought that a "slow motion car crash" would be ok with the general slowness of the motion.
Maybe it's a metaphor.

Mass deaths in that case are to be expected but the value of a life counts the same whatever the age and circumstance, and for me the idea of wiping out a high percentage of the older population (which you quaintly call in the Autumn of life) because its better for the strongest and the fittest is something I personally find abhorrent. Hey, it's Mother Nature who launched this, not me. I'm just commenting on it. As for my own children, Charlie is a Health Care Assistant in the Accident and Emergency department at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother hospital in Margate so he's probably far more at risk of it than the average Joe. And as for your objection to the "Survival of the Fittest" philosophy, take that up with Charles Darwin, not me.

What is horrific is the daily death toll in places like Spain and the almost inevitability of waiting for ours to reach that number What is also awful is the facts that no matter what measures taken there are always those who criticise and want more ..... no one can think of everything all at once, phone lines are swamped as all scramble to get entitlements and a means to survive this financially. In amongst the real need there will be the scammers/the get rich feckless individuals whose actions I find despicable. However bad stuff gets some folk will never work for the common good, yet others work on the front line and give all of themselves to help. We are a mixed bag. With that I'm now off on my Social Distancing Exercise for the day..out early, in early and thats me....

Borrowed from elsewhere but relevant: "Also like to ask anyone watch sky news about 7 this morning. Kay Burleigh was interviewing some health minister. And she repeatedly ask him the following: Today there are 3 planes arriving from Madrid into Heathrow. Madrid is worst affected area in Spain. How can this even be allowed? And he basically went round the houses and said nothing. Apart from that if passengers show symptoms they should self-isolate. We're not allowed out unless essential yet people from Madrid can come here no questions asked, no checks. Just "if you show signs self-isolate for 2 weeks." Unbelievable really. a possible answer (but not one that a politician could say) Those numbers are totally insignificant compared to the numbers of F ....... idiots who are ignoring the lock down
