I realise it is largely irrelevant, but does anyone KNOW if the work was completed and the locks re-opened last Friday as planned ?

"Are the canals open for cruising?"
CRT: "we are asking leisure boaters to stop all non-essential travel"
"They manage the waterways ... they are the authority.

It's obvious you are thinking of sneaking off to the Llangollen Canal. The Welsh don't want you on their patch. I know the Police Snitch Hotline number. " Police urge Brits to spill the beans"

Come to think about it, now's a good time to snitch on all the CWDFers who are out on their jolly cruises.

I never realised the Llangollen Canal was in Humberside.

I never realised the Llangollen Canal was in Humberside. Just had a look - Google Maps says satellite view of Brinklow area from 2020. You might be there?

I was chatting to the guy on the coal boat Mountbatten about ten days ago ... he'd been stuck unable to get back onto his patch for eighteen months.
He'd been invited by C&RT to take his boat to the lock so they could check dimensions about a month ago ... and all was well.
They'd also invited him to be the first boat up ... a sort of formal re-opening last Friday.
But then of course everything changed last Monday 23 ... I was wondering if the workers all went home and the work remains incomplete, or if it had opened ... but of course unused.
It's probably too far for me to walk ... I thought I may get a sensible answer here ... didn't account for the Finnish fox.

I was only joking. My take on this, as I have said before, is that, yes, I think a few weeks of quarantine for everyone could be an interesting method to see how things pan out. If this virus is really a threat. But the whole thing is a joke with the Police telling old ladies on park benches to go home, yet letting drug dealers carry on as normal, and see comment below:
"Close the International airports, the Channel Tunnel and the London Underground OR lift the lockdown on the public immediately. You can't have it both ways claiming the virus could spread if we leave home but doesn't spread on the packed trains and planes where passengers breath recycled air."
Of course I see nothing wrong with boating, when supermarkets are packed with hordes of 'the unclean'. Don't forget to wipe the paddle gear after you have used it with antiseptic wipes - because as we all know, antiseptics do not 'kill' viruses.

Nice thought ... but I meant an 8 mile towpath walk is stretching the 'daily exercise' rule. Walking on footpaths away from the public is less contentious. Rog
