Bono, whilst playing a gig in Glasgow, got the whole crowd to be silent and then began slowly clapping his hands.
He spoke, saying that every time he clapped his hands a child in Africa died …
Suddenly, from the front row of the venue a voice cried out “Well stop fucking doing it then!

The Witch had a look at Nemesis's pics (lifted from The Daily Mail) and she noted that we haven't thrown any food away. This is true. We did buy some extra in, such as packets of chicken and minced lamb and minced beef, but they're still in the freezer. The shops up our way are still full of produce.

And that's just your dustbins @nemesis Rog Ho ho. I succumbed to a bit of panic buying. I couldn't be arsed to go to the supermarket, so when the local shop were selling bags of spuds (out of stock for a week) at £6.00 each, I panicked and bought one. There's plenty in Tescos at the usual price of course. Doh.

We never, ever throw anything away, ever.
We will have gone 2 weeks without shopping when we go tomorrow, have no freezer and only eat fresh food. We only eat bread for a day or two every 2 weeks but we do make a lot of cakes. The milk still hasn't gone off but again we hardly use any.
We do now have a small bag of rice in the store cupboard and a few tins of fruit/veg but TBH, you don't need a stack of dried stuff to get through 2 weeks during which half the time you'll probably have to force yourself to eat anyway.
Eventually I hope this becomes self evident even to the most brainless, but it'll probably be thought of wasted £s that swings it. Can't keep that up for long! Those pics could so easily be set up. Who chucks perfectly good bananas? Nobody.

I've got a whole duck to cook for Sunday dinner (Half price £10 reduced to £5 and further reduced to £2.70). Duck, 'dolphin' potatoes and roast veg for dinner for the next few days. Lunch is shredded duck, hoisin sauce, spring onion paninis (4 paninis reduced to 10p to clear). Some real bargains to be had now people realise they need to try to eat what they have already bought..........

I was ready to accept the photos ... until the Daily Mail was mentioned ... wouldn't believe it if that publication said it was Sunday.
Er ... what day is it

Who chucks perfectly good bananas? Nobody. I knew a girl who wouldn't buy green bananas. Nothing would make her believe they would ripen of their own accord My dear mother would deliberately buy over-ripe bananas from the market at the end of the day for pennies and tell my brother and I that they were better for you...

I am fairly sure that those photos are staged.
Those are not bags of potatoes that needed throwing out ..... when they get to that stage they are starting to look like triffids.
(I was intending to buy some grow bags but the shut down beat me to it as I have some spuds (from prior to panic buying thing) that are sprouting merrily that I was intending to plant ..... ah well guess they will have to be thrown out after all ..... hate doing that.

My mother lodged with a future Bishop when she was at Uni in the early 50's. The other lodger was an African girl because the Bish was right on. This African girl made it clear that we all eat our banana raw and would have indigestion. According to her, bananas were not ripe until they were complete mush inside, like cooked ones, which ARE very nice and sweet aren't they? We used to wrap a few in silver foil with a slice of chocolate inserted and chuck them on the embers when were camping. Add cream. I like them microwaved in porridge with honey. Yum to bananas.
