I was due a haircut last week ... but of course it doesn't do to make plans. I have no intention of joining the pony tailed brigade or the Shipman look alikes, so I will remain clean shaven, and hope to get a hair cut. I'm wondering if anyone uses clippers and does a diy job ... and how it works out ? Please god Mr Stabby isn't an example. I'm sure @bedruthan will take the mick out of any sort of buzz cut ... but needs must ... and the bacon scissors aren't an appealing alternative. Rog

I do a once over with a number one, apart from the tuft centre front. Several years ago I'd did a full baldy for a while, just for the craic. Until it had tanned and weathered a bit it looked like plucked chicken. Go for it.

My concern is ... the end product can only be a bonus for you ... being a clown.
How difficult is it to do yourself ?
If I buy some clippers (I think B&M is open in town) do the guards equate to what you'd get at the barbers ?
I normally have a 3 on the back and sides and then just trimmed on top with scissors .

I last had a proper haircut in July last year. About a month ago I chopped some only off of the top with a pair of scissors firstly because it was flopping in my eyes and secondly because I want to grow it longer at the back as I am aiming for the MJG 1985 mullet look.

I was well overdue for a haircut a month or so ago. Was planning on being down at Benfleet by then and going to my old hairdressers. It's just about reaching pony tail starting length ....... I have been thinking about using my beard trimmer on longest setting ..... but .... I think I might just go back to my biker days and go for the pony tail ..... after all I have a perfect excuse ..... Self Isolating innit

Here's the classic 1980s style I'm aiming for, how cool is that?

I’ve cut my hair with trimmers for along time. I’ve just done the spring once over with number3. I don’t think I’ll go to a hairdresser again.

Rog There's a range of guards, I use the thinnest. Never had number cuts at the barbers so I don't know. Years back I had a pair of thinning scissors, tooth and gap, used to just hack away till it felt right, for a dishevelled 80s look. What's the problem anyway. If you mess up Jane might still love you, possibly not!

Needs a photo to back that up kris ... it may be more Jim than I would be aiming for I'm still living down @bedruthan 's 'constructive criticism' from my last all over 'clipper job'. I could always shave my head ... paint it purple and claim rickets are back Rog

I'd be thinking more in terms of Grecian 2000 than clippers if I were you Rog. Anyway, I've noticed thebfg's keeping a very low profile here.

When I was a teen and playing rugby I used a weird comb thing (k-tel hair magician ?) to just cut at my temples, and leave everything else to grow ... very 'mullet like' but not very 'glam rock' ... more JPR Williams I hope modern clippers are MUCH, MUCH better. Rog
