Strangely enough I have a DNR tag about my person but you knew that as you are a spy. There is a Jim Morrison song here but it might come across as a bit gay. I'm happy with gay

I can definitely believe it. That is a very nice execution of an outboard motor steering arm pivot. Or whatever you outboard motor anoraks call them. Obviously I know everything about boats but when it comes to in depth detail of the old gulls and things I am but an apprentice. Always happy to learn I'll go through my picture library so that if fortune smiles upon you, you will have a better idea of what it is / worth. In fact on second thoughts picture libraries of Seagulls have been done to death. See 'Saving Old Seagulls' if your interest has been piqued. Here's one example of what the site has to offer: And if you should happen on something that looks like this: 1934 Superlight Or this: Model 5R circa 1990 Definitely enquire if its for sale. Either one could fetch as much as £1000. The 5R did.

Steering arm on the 5R looks very similar to my Yamaha Malta. Much larger than my old Mariner 4 which is also a 2 stroke unit.

This is perhaps unsurprising; the only bit made by Seagull is the motor and ignition; the rest is Yamaha. This was Seagull's 'swan song' attempt to revitalise the company before bankruptcy hit.

I didn't know that. Just recognised the part.
I thought they died out after doing the recoil start ones and possibly some sort of thing with Selva.
Makes sense though as I believe Selva had a Yamaha connection as well.

Well that I don't know but I am acquainted with a bunch of uber-nerds would be delighted to discuss such things till the cows come home.

Keep looking. You'll find some of those parts sell, and some sit there forever. But most are overpriced garbage relating to models that, by and large, no-one gives much of a damn about. I like the clutched 40 though - I have two. But not for that price.
In Seagull world, very old and the latest models are where its at.

Ask them about the Selva connection.
I could have made it up I don't know and have not checked.
I had a Selva 25 years ago. Pile of junk it kept jumping into reverse gear which is not what you want on a 9ft speedboat with a 25 on it...
I spoke the the lady at Selva and she said "what you have to understand is that a Selva outboard is like a thorobred horse, quality through and through".
As far as I'm concerned it was a really shit outboard motor with lower unit issues.
If she had said "adjust the linkage" I might have been more forgiving.
Nothing quite like being young free single and rich tall dark and handsome with a good telephone manner.

Ever since one member badly ripped off a really nice guy and was applauded by the central mob, I have had nothing to with them. But you can if you like: www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/phpbb3/I like to think that it is no reflection on the main site owner but he knows what goes on.
