What good do you hope will come out of this experience? It seems it will be a while before we get back to some kind of 'normality', but what would you like the new 'normal' to be? For us, the only real negative to come from this is that we can only cruise a short distance to get water, food and do Elsan. We had planned to do the Lancaster and then venture into Yorkshire, now cancelled. On a plus side l'd hope for the new normal to include these things...many of which we are probably doing right now... More appreciation and respect for nature. More appreciation for our health. More appreciation of life in general. Cleaner air and water. Less unessesary travel (less pollution). [We may have to take that one on board and I'm kicking myself now for not having a solar panel!] More time spent with family and friends. [at the moment probably more on social media] More time going outside exercising in the fresh air
Less time spent doing things which do potentially more harm than good.
More appreciation for those who's jobs are closer related to basic survival (farming, heath/care workers, food shops & distribution, building/maintenance workers, water supply etc).
Reduction of unessesary work and increase of jobs supporting vital services.
Less globalisation and more localisation of vital functions and services (less travel and quicker responses).
Less focus on money and more focus on people.
More time participating in, and enjoying the arts. [especially music ]

Wall to wall boating - no need to be around the house as everything will be done by the time this is over!

A return to a simpler way of life as people have realised what they can do without.
...and free holidays, just for parents....no children allowed.

Huge reduction in demand for round tuits 'cos anything worth doing will have been done.
Unfortunately it'll probably result in redundancies at the tuit factory.

A return to a simpler way of life as people have realised what they can do without. Oh that must be why it has had virtually no effect on my day to day life. Because I do fuck all anyway 24/7. I do miss the yellow floating electric beer drinking platform specially in this weather. Fortunately I have the blue one here. Not quite as comfy though as has less lumbar support. Pretty terrible plus of course inner city slums in a ditch full of rubbish and aggressive coots is not as pleasant as the Thames in Berkshire with hyper friendly Mandarin ducks. It's all quackers in you as me. Quompletely quackers.

I've certainly used up a few round tuits over the last week or two with jobs on the boat.

Not trying to sound selfish or greedy, but I liked my life up until the virus hit. I’m hoping that I can get back to doing all the things that I can do without as, soon as is possible. I have little interest in just making do, I enjoy some of life’s luxuries.

I have little interest in just making do, I enjoy some of life’s luxuries. Fair enough, but I'd like to guess that for many quite a bit of money gets wasted every year on stuff that in the end isn't really appreciated and certainly not needed. It could be that until the money starts to roll in again a simpler life might be just as enjoyable. I dont miss my £30,000 a year! ...honestly, I dont! 🙄 I agree with you. Ali and me packed up work at 50 years of age when we decided we had enough in savings to do so. It meant we had to keep more of an eye on what we spent, but don’t regret it one bit. Friends did, and some still do think we were mad. Some of them have moved on in there ways, brought bigger houses, shinier cars etc. My children both work hard, both spend money on posh holidays and cars.. Who’s right or wrong? My point is that we all like different things, and long may we all be able to choose as we wish.

I should be oop on t'moors enjoying the peace and quiet, camping and walking - The peace and quiet is not supposed to come to me! I don't miss an income, most of it disappeared down a black hole anyway. If you haven't got it... But if everyone suddenly started living the simple life, fixing their own plumbing and stopped buying crap, the crawl out of economic depression will take even longer and more people will be forced to live the simple life ad infinitum. This may sound good, but who exactly is going to pay for supporting 10M out of work people?

Exactly, mine too and yes to that horrible thought. My pitiful saving rate just went down from 1.2 to 0.4%. The pound had plummeted and get ready for inflation to eat up everything else. I don't think anybody will be immune from a big devaluing of everything they own or have saved. My skimping lifestyle may not be enough to make it to retirement age and when I get there, the state pension won't go as far and that's all I have to look forward to. Economically the best thing would be for the whole world to hit the ground running ASAP. Mankind is on a sprint to oblivion anyway.
