I have seen everyday on Jane's facebook pages, messages flying around about which take away food outlets are still open back home.
We've discussed our surprise that whilst many people are going 'slightly overboard' with their anti-virus precautions, the same people are happy to accept delivery of foods from unknown sources, by unknown deliverers.
I read today in the BBC news that many fast food outlets are to now to re open for deliveries only ... large multi-national companies with global outlets.
The 'excuse' of a lack of time for cooking and baking doesn't hold true currently, so it suggests a large proportion of society would prefer to eat fast-food take aways rather than home cooked food.
Seems rather disappointing.

I nearly posted something on the 'good news thread' about KFC reopening until I realised for deliveries only . Still working on a plan to get a delivery along the towpath...

I get sick of cooking... I like to eat but don't like cooking - it's a necessity I accept.
LAST night, we had Fish and Chips from the only chippy in Skipton still open (as in Proper chippy I mean)... same family household - strict "social distancing" measures in place (plaice?) with a queue down the street on markers 2 metres apart and only 1 person in the shop at time... it took a while but they were lovely...
you've GOT to help any business trying to survive when clearly THEY can't get hold of any money either...

Don’t forget, not everyone is lazing about at home, there are still plenty of people working. Good to see the companies mentioned are offering either free or heavily discounted meals to NHS workers.

Many independent take-aways up home have stayed open throughout apparently.
People should spend their money how they wish, however if I was expressing a preference it would be for people to support small, independents, rather than KFC, McD, and BK etc.
It was the constantly used reason for living on take-aways I was referring to ... the truth is out it now appears ... nothing to do with time it's all about preference.
We work (for 3 months) in retail ... lots of young families, single parents and all on minimum wages ... many take taxi's to work ... many eat regular take aways.
It seems incongruous to us who walk to work, and cook more often than dine out or take-away.
Everything I read suggests we as a society emerged from the second World War healthier due to rationing, home growing and cooking.

I can't make curry like the takeaway can. Nor do a selection of tasty side dishes. I can see the attraction.

Better than a Vesta meal ? Rog Definitely! Eating out was a twice a year thing anyway and I can't justify a takeaway so no change here.

I (very rarely) will have fish and chips from a chippy (but only if they are a really good one) I can't remember when I last had a take away Indian or Chinese. Haven't ever had a pizza delivery (although I have had the odd slice of one when doing gigs and they were provided) I will very occasionally buy a small good margherita pizza that the Co-op does but apart from that I really do prefer my own cooking. I learned to cook decent meals and to divide them up into portions and freeze them when I was having a tight financial time. They cost a fraction of shop bought and I know what is in them. It's a habit I have never lost. before this lockdown is over I will have a go at bread making I think there is only 4 slices of bread left in the freezer .... although that is not too bad as I have run out of bacon, so no bacon butties for brekkie

Jane's quite jealous of quaysider 's Skipton chippy visit. We rarely do take-aways ... much more likely to eat out ... but it is simply cheaper to cook yourself. It does get boring ... but we take it in turns (alright her two to my one ) which shares the load ... and we find the planning or thinking about what to make is the worse bit, rather than the actual doing. Our eating out is usually informal and quite spontaneous ... out for a walk and decide to eat type thing ... will be pleased when cafes and pubs are back in business. Rog

As a keen cook I am mostly enjoying the opportunity to cook more adventurous meals on a leisurely fashion. My daughter is also enjoying this as she can try meals she has fancied but, as a student, the outlay on the unusual ingredients needed make it too expensive, the larder and/or bank of Mum & Dad has removed that constraint and Mum and Dad are also trying meals that we would not usually cook.
We still have the occasional takeaway both to support local businesses and on those days where overenthusiastic gardening/DIY/tidying has left us hungry, exhausted and reluctant to wait for a home cooked meal.

Fish and chips the other night from Westward Ho! Used the shops app to order and pay, given a time to collect, went down there, notice says wait away from the shop door, server placed order on table that was blocking door and called my name. No contact, lots of distance and bloody excellent F&C.

Managed to get 14 meals out of a (half price but still expensive) leg of lamb at easter.
2 roasts with all the usual trimmings.
8 Lamb Rogan Josh - to be served with mushroom rice, Aloo Gobi Masala, Nepalese Curried Spinach, and Onion Bargee (all home made) - All frozen in portions.
4 'Scotch Broths' - made from the bones and meat scrapings.
Still hanker after a KFC though...

Ah, but that's where home made meals in the freezer come into there own We do use our home cooked freezer meals too but that doesn’t support the local businesses. We have High Street offices so we need the footfall that other thriving businesses create for us to thrive.. Together we’re better.
