Swansea itself is a bit of a dive as are lot of cities. I rarely venture in there as the Mumbles provides all I really need. I don't like cities or busy places. I don't actually live in the 'Mumbles' as the house are silly prices even small terraced. I'm close enough to be able to avoid tourists with my very early out and in I access what i need..I wouldn't go to bars etc when its heaving anyway. For surfing there are some ace places quite near..son in law heeds the call of the surf.. I keep thinking I'll have a go but I haven't got a wet suit and I don't do cold water Might £180K buy a 1 bed cottage or similar somewhere in the area, within a few miles of the coast? p.s. I wouldn't bother with surfing. It's OK if you start young, you can pick things up fairly quickly but when you're a bit older it's a real slog trying to get fit enough. I was 45 when I first tried it, took me months to catch my first proper (unbroken) wave. Possibly if u don't mind inland a bit and avoid the 'popular' postcodes..Just watch out for the old Knotweed, theres a lot in some areas... Think its like everywhere, property prices vary considerably. Son is looking to buy one/two bed in the area soon..we;l once Coronageddon releases its hold

They need someone to ring the bells in Gargrave, and it's on the railway so easy access to Skipton, Leeds, Settle, Carlisle, Lancaster. Probably friendlier people than in Cornwall.

It's quite amusing, as someone who has never owned any property and never will, to look at predictions of how the Covid thing might hit house prices.
On the one hand you get the "it's got to be a massive hit we're talking 30 percent down" then on the other hand "probably a few percent up by end of the year".
I'm outside of the system in this respect but it's interesting to watch anyway.
I can't see a government allowing house prices to drop. They will throw the kitchen sink at it to prevent that happening...

No boats are not property. They are chattels.
I think you know what I meant.

I'm starting to warm to the idea of Barmouth in Gwynedd. Couple of really nice one bed cottages going for £130K or so. Big estuary for kayaking and fishing. Surf on the beach isn't reliable but they have it on occasions, and it doesn't get crowded. Popular with Brummies during the summer season so less likely to have animosity from locals. Anyway, I'll be Gareth if I decide to live there, and will have a reasonable grip on Welsh.

I went to Barmouth when I was doing internet dating 11 years ago. Met up wth a rare welsh bit. She was okay actually nothing happened at all. Nice person I was not her type.
Nice part of the country actually. I set the gps on the car to scenic route driving back down to civilisation in the home counties and it took me through some very nice countryside.
It might not have been Barmouth but that was the nearest town. There was a station but it was very quiet. View of the sea from where she lived. Pub down the road was quite funny.
ETA looking at map I think it was Aberlech, closer to Pwllhelli.
