I'm told the trip to Lechlade is wonderful and well worth the risks of encountering hire boats hurtling down towards you on the flow around the bends.

Yes in the bunker. This is one of the plans the other is to go up River towards Oxford. Just looked it up - it is going down awfully slowly - just from where does all this water come? River Kennet just west of Newbury. Still rushing off to Reading!

I'd be looking forward to my annual 3 days sea trout fishing in the borders. Bailiffs would have evicted a tenant who hasn't paid for 3 months and the sale would have gone through, at £10K more than I've now agreed to sell it for. This would enable me to sell the boat and move to Wales right away. Mind you, my decision to do that came after the coronavirus hit, maybe I wouldn't have made this decision otherwise?

the upper stretch of the river, including as far beyond Lechlade as you can navigate depending on fallen trees, etc., is relatively featureless and could be seen to be monotonous, but if you really want to get away from it all and just relax it is very rewarding.

My toy trawler draws 3ft4. Above Oxford the official maximum draught is 3ft.
I have been to Lechlade in all my motor boats but this one might end up being the exception because of the draught.
I do think the lock cills are deeper than this but not entirely sure about that. Should really check this. I believe the 3ft is an advised mininum depth of channel.
I don't mind grounding in soft mud but would hate to hit and/or damage an obstruction near a lock.
Of course there are no inverted goal posts above Godstow lock so you would be more likely to damage the boat than the lock infrastructure.
I must have a look at my 1972 Thames guide and check the depth above Oxford as I had 3ft6 in my head before I saw the 3ft.
If that were the case it would confirm my suspicion that the cills are deeper than the advised maximum draught.

Would that be in the survival 'bunker' @magnetman ? What's the trip to the G&S like Trina ... you know I'm not a river boy in a canal boat ... is the Avon good for regular moorings on the way ? Rog Really good trip Rog,the Severn itself is a bit boring-but the places to stop on the way to the G&S are fab.Last time we went,we then had 2 weeks on the Avon.We found plenty of places available to moor, some very quiet(like Eckington)& others quite busy(like Pershore).

Just checked where I'd be no: Tied up in Liverpool with new guests about to arrive. Next leg was Liverpool to Mancs... When we can get moving, that trip is gonna be ignored and We're going straight Mancs from here and then decide whether to take a detour up the Llangollen and then maybe back up the Caldon to kill some time before heading to Ellesmere Port where it's possible we might be able to have guests on circa 22nd July... tbh - this entire years income has all but evaporated anyway and even the money already come in, is effectively 'stolen' from next year to honour bookings.

Rog The time to avoid hire boats on the Upper Thames is the weekend Stag and Hens and booze cruisers. I still have nightmares or Firedancer hurtling round a 180 degree bend towards me after I'd avoided the other Anglo Welsh that he was chasing that I'd managed to avoid. Thankfully, I'd not had a shiny paint job, but Anglo Welsh forked out for 5 litres paint for me to repair the scratches.

Yep - He got 'stuck' when we got locked down and figured, Skipton is certainly nicer than Manchester... not sure how I'm going to keep paying him but hey ho.
ALTHOUGH - quite often when I say "WE" - I'm referring to the boat and myself.

Maybe you should make his breakfast and charge him the going guest rate, he might find he's not so stuck as he thought.
