WHO advice remains wear a mask if suffering symptons or caring for someone who is. Everyone else, maintain distance and scrupulous hand washing. Rog A certain sort of person has jumped at the chance to wear a mask. I'm hunting for a polite euphemism, perhaps "irregular features" "plain" or, more likely "baby frightener". Such a person may well insist their lovely wife would wear one to, so they aren't the only masked person. I recommended masks weeks ago - it looks like the World Health Organisation hasn't put me on their 'ignore list' and, indeed, are taking my advice.

The only unlicenced object in our back garden is this critter, taken a half-hour ago: is that a grey ish Red Squirrel? I know their hue varies. I hope you aren't overrun with American invaders like we are. Red one - I don't think there any grey ones in Finland. They look cute but would sink their teeth into your finger if you grabbed one. wildlifekate.wordpress.com/2019/10/09/finland-2019-stunning-squirrels/ We have always had bird food hanging down from this tree, and a little house filled with sunflower seeds, and I made a table right next to the kitchen window 8 years ago. I've not been a bird spotter really, but sometimes it's nice to have a look - the woodpeckers are spectacular, and we've had some rare things once in a while - yesterday we had some collared doves which don't normally come this far north. We're lucky we have a hive of activity right outside our window and I have been thinking I could waste some hours taking photos of the birds now that I'm free from work. Perhaps one day this week or next week. Tomorrow we're continuing with our wood cage project, have made good progress today with it.

We used to play Cowboys and Indians….I was always the Cowboy and they were the Indians….I was, of course, magnificent in my delivered from Harrods Lone Ranger costume… they not so magnificent with a bit of mud daubed on their faces and a pigeon feather from my previous night’s shooting stuck in their hair. How they envied me on my very valuable palamino pony as I chased the ragamuffins across the fields and when they discovered that I’d cunningly swapped my cap-pistol for a 177 air-pistol... well the howls of envy from them were enough to gladden the hardest of hearts…. I wonder if this was where my love of fox-hunting was born? They were not allowed to fire their bows at me of course…. I may have got hurt. When I’d had enough of chasing and shooting them I used to tell Pater that one of the urchins had called me a rude name….. ”Little Lord Fondleboy” was one such example of their coarseness. I always reported them before Tiffin was served…. that way I got to eat all the crustless smoked-salmon sandwiches and cream-buns. After a year or two they refused to come… even the threat of eviction from their tied-cottages wouldn’t convince them…. didn’t really matter, if anything I had an even more enjoyable day watching the bailiffs chuck them and their families out on the street. Glory Days when Commoners knew their place….will we ever see their like again?"

I read the missive and understood it, glad that someone has given us something, I do wonder if we will get a second month, but suspect we will. I have heard that CRT have furloughed staff so costs have gone down for them along with maintenance, which we know wont go away. Will grass cutting happen I wonder? maybe not as the grass around here has been worn away!!! Grass cutting at the Elsan yesterday .......... two rented vans, one CRT van, three men, its about the size of half a badminton court, if that. I'd estimate it cost CRT about £200, it took about an hour. I used the loo today, it is very clean, as it always has been on the few occasions I have ventured in.

I had an altercation on the towpath yesterday. I was walking where there was a cinder towpath with the usual 2 or 3 feet of grass before the canal. On the other side was a wide grass verge, maybe 10 feet wide. A fat bloke seemed to be skulking in the bushes I gave him a nod and a smile as I walked past to which he responded "you could have moved over a bit". Sarcasm is a red rag to a bull to me at the moment so I wasn't totally calm as I explained to him that I was at least 12 feet away from him, it's plenty far enough, and the grass by the water is full of dog shit. He came back at me calling me selfish and an idiot so I just called him a knobhead and to fuck off; I'm pleased to report that he complied.
