I am assuming that there will be some relaxation in restrictions in early May ... at least workers getting back to work, and movement being allowed within distancing and hygeine guidelines. There are plenty of covid threads ... but I was wondering what do people plan to do next ? I suspect (a local cc boater here has already had an email from local enforcement suggesting they need to move on once permitted which is expected to be in the next 10 to 14 days) C&RT will want to get boats moving again, although some (perhaps hire and share boaters) may be asked to stay away. Our plan was the Llangollen ... trying to decide if we should continue when restrictions are eased or whether to stay on the 'mainline' around the Four Counties ring just in case. Of course first thing is a trip to see family ... if permitted by restrictions and the family What are you thinking ... carry on regardless ... or be slightly more circumspect ? Rog

Well firstly, I need a great flight in my lovely glider. The best time of year weather wise is ... just about right now, til the end of May. Jeff will want to go down to the boat, and the first thing heβll need to do is empty the shit tank that he fully filled! He doesnβt like reversing the boat back along the pontoon past all the boats so I guess Iβll have to come down too. Torn between my two favourite hobbies!

We'll probably head down the K&A again (did it with Chris in 2013). Not enough time to cover all the North as planned now.
As we won't be so far from family and friends now we'll probably see them more often than planned.
I'm wondering how long the band will be put on hold if pubs and clubs don't reopen this year. Maybe I'll have to try and do some more recording instead.
One thing is for sure, they'll be lots of parties and piss ups when this thing blows over.

I don't really think CRT can expect CCers to move while pubs and chandlers are still closed.
Personally I'll be doing the Leicester Ring next trip as I don't want to stray too far from my mooring at the moment.

I'm fairly well resigned to not going anywhere very much this year. It would be nice to take a trip up to Goole or maybe even York but it so much depends. The problem being that for the tidal river sections I need crew.
I was intending to have my ballast on board before my next foray onto CRT waters so that I can get under some low bridges and get further into the system but I can't see that happening. Everything seems to have conspired against it, first the flooding made it impossible to get either a crane barge or the dockcrane to it,
Now with Covid I don't fancy working with a gang, man handling it into the bilges. I don't think that is sensible.
About the only thing I might be able to do this year is try and get my little boat up and running and have a trip up the ditches

The cc 'ers in question are well in their seventies, and actually asked us if we'd received an email (we haven't).
I just thought it may be indicative of C&RT's thinking ... get boats moving again by mid May.
Got me wondering what we should do ... carry on regardless or jump from services to services on the main line.
It does concern me that if there SHOULD be a second peak, where we 'get stuck' ... we've been fortunate with this location.

There's no actual ban on movement and although I wouldn't head off from my home base in the present circumstances, largely through logistical considerations, I wouldn't even think twice about heading back to base had I been away when the lockdown started.

Once this is all over I am going to grasp the nettle by the horns and follow through on the plans to do something.
No idea what it is but as long as it is something then it's ok.

I need to move, I need to move, I need to move. I cannot handle much more of this non movement, it's beginning to affect my state of mind.

I've been giving this some thought.. Little sis needs help renovating a property she brought(yeah yeah I know I said never again) so I might spend a few weeks helping cos they'd only be us, pub over road does take away and theoretically won't be me always paying.... To do that guess better think about getting car and I'm drawn to another soft top which isn't practical nor ecologically friendly but .... I'd also like to find a puppy... however i might just stay here and see what happens when they open the cages

My thinking about what to do it still a bit fluid - I vary between there is no point in leaving Skipton if we're gonna get locked back in again as it's a "safe" and quite easy place to be during these times... it's dull but friendly and no really Scallies around to cause problems.
Thing is - I accept boaty hotels are not high on Boris's list of things to think about but I can't see us being allowed to operate as such if 'anti-social distancing'measures remain in place - I mean, you CANT keep 2 metres away from guests in a narrowboat can you? - ... and of course if 'households mixing' is still to be avoided, we'd be scuppered...
IF by the end of June it's looking possible we may be able to pick up July bookings (mid july onwards are NOT cancelled yet) then of course Ellis needs to be in the right place at the right time to be able to continue the planned route.
I AM going to Skip Liverpool until August and go in for my 2nd booking assuming we CAN have guests by then.. if not, then I'll just have a holiday into Liverpool on my own... assuming they are not rioting by then... if so, stay in hiding elsewhere.
ITs NOT being able to make plans that makes it so frustrating... IGNORING the lack of income, I just want to be chugging along - I really can't see the harm it does... I have my own windlasses, only push lock gates with my arse and can wipe a water tape down before (and after) use, WHEREVER I am...

If CRT decide to allow movement and any of your bookings are still up for it I'd carry on quietly going about your business. No pubs and limited wandering about for your guests (to give you a break) but hey ho they could still have a nice time.

I do realise we all have to wait and see how much restrictions are relaxed ... so it's really impossible to plan ... but we're beginning to consider plans now. Provided movement is allowed, we'll visit family and then carry on up the Llangollen (sounds like we expect to meet Sid James ). I fully appreciate our boating is purely pleasure, which isn't the case for quaysider ... hope the money rolls in soon. Rog
