My thinking about what to do it still a bit fluid - I vary between there is no point in leaving Skipton if we're gonna get locked back in again as it's a "safe" and quite easy place to be during these times... it's dull but friendly and no really Scallies around to cause problems. Thing is - I accept boaty hotels are not high on Boris's list of things to think about but I can't see us being allowed to operate as such if 'anti-social distancing'measures remain in place - I mean, you CANT keep 2 metres away from guests in a narrowboat can you? - ... and of course if 'households mixing' is still to be avoided, we'd be scuppered... IF by the end of June it's looking possible we may be able to pick up July bookings (mid july onwards are NOT cancelled yet) then of course Ellis needs to be in the right place at the right time to be able to continue the planned route. I AM going to Skip Liverpool until August and go in for my 2nd booking assuming we CAN have guests by then.. if not, then I'll just have a holiday into Liverpool on my own... assuming they are not rioting by then... if so, stay in hiding elsewhere. ITs NOT being able to make plans that makes it so frustrating... IGNORING the lack of income, I just want to be chugging along - I really can't see the harm it does... I have my own windlasses, only push lock gates with my arse and can wipe a water tape down before (and after) use, WHEREVER I am... If CRT decide to allow movement and any of your bookings are still up for it I'd carry on quietly going about your business. No pubs and limited wandering about for your guests (to give you a break) but hey ho they could still have a nice time. CRT cancelled our bookings up North. They might open up the bookings at some point though.

Ellis went back in the water on Thursday and was back on board that night.... washed the holiday cottage bedding on the boat and returned it Frirday morning following a clean through and a bottlle of Moet for the owner as a thank you.
I had 9 baths in all.

I won't go too far this year. I'm hoping the bailiffs will start working soon so I can get my house back, I have a buyer waiting. It will then be a case of buying a house and selling the boat. I'll probably head south of Middlewich, I love that bit of canal, so quiet, and there are a couple of brokerages where you get free moorings while they try to sell your boat.

i think crt are going to have lots of problems with boaters refusing to move, claiming they should be allowed to stay where they are until social restrictions are completely removed... all the crusty boaters will be camped on services and visitor moorings for some time yet...

No idea what we'll be doing this Summer. Well, some ideas, yes, but how will things turn out? No point in travelling to England if boating is not allowed; our boat should be OK parked up as it is, but I would like the engine to have a spin of a half hour by the beginning of June. We can go anywhere in Finland, but it's such a boring country, scenery pretty much the same the breadth of the land. Unless.... we could borrow my workmate's boat and do some lakes... or buy our own boat. I should be happy to explore Norway, but we can't go there until they open their border, and Finland opens its border. I saw yesterday (hadn't noticed before) that the world's longest undersea road tunnel, the Ryfast/Ryfylke Tunnel, 14.3km long, opened in December. That's the only bit of Norway we haven't been to, the Stavanger region. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryfast Rogfast Tunnel going to be even longer at 27km! (Longest road tunnel on land 24km is in Norway) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogfast

It will then be a case of buying a house and selling the boat. WHAT? Indeed. I do like living on my boat but the sea is calling me. It's been calling for decades but I can ignore the call no longer. I think my overseas trips are going to be difficult if not impossible from now on. The thought of going a year or more without being able to do the stuff I love on the ocean fills me with a mixture of dread, and panic. I'll still have my kayak, there's a 6 1/2 mile long estuary where I'm going. Will I still be allowed to come on this forum?

Well that’s a bit of a shock but yes, I suppose we will still allow you to participate! When you say “the sea is calling” do you mean you want to get a job on a ship, buy a sea going boat, or just kayak on the estuary?
