Though now I have my lidl battery angle grinder. The scrote key of choice On Shapfell there is are stilsons, a handy billy (rope and blocks) bolt croppers, nails and tingle plates. (I also boated in the 70's ) used to carry more and heavier stuff when on a narrowboat rather than a little yoghurt pot What use were tingle plates?

I was referring to IKB 's comment.
The implication appeared to be that today's boaters were diminished in some way ... hence my question.

What use were tingle plates? patching leaks on bottom gates A search says they are used to support a builders line along a run of brickwork. Presumably in a boaty context they were just plain rectangles etc of sheet metal, not especially shaped like the builders ones. Did you fashion them from old washing machines and fridges found in t'cut?

The ones I had were cut from the big tins of dried milk that you used to see and were about 12" x 10" Never heard of builders tingle plates, only ever come across them as (backed by thick layer of bitumastic) for temporary leak repairs on wooden boats (also used to use thin sheets of lead for the same thing to keep leaky old clinker tubs afloat)

Copper tingles. Plates nailed on around the waterline to delay the inevitable sinking of wooden boats.

One of a true mudlarker's favourite finds.

Something to hang on the walls of the local surgery waiting room. Just to keep it cheery, like
