Several countries have low or very low numbers now and have either come out of lockdown or are preparing to. The end is most likely to come from a new treatment or a vaccination along with 'test, track and trace', same has happened with most of the new modern viruses over the last 30 years or so. I'd be surprised if this one was different. We'll see. They may have a lot less to deal with than us. We're pretty rife with it because we didn't get on top.
Frankly I will NOT be locked down until a vaccine MAY be developed in a year or 18 months (they really need 4-5 years, you do understand that? - you can't really speed these things up that much by suddenly chucking money into research you should have been funding better in the past). Agree with that.
New treatment based on existing drugs plus effective 'test, track and trace' is currently my bet to get us out of the mess.

Test, track and trace...not in the British spirit old chap, people will resist and what's the point when soooo many are experiencing no symptoms or treating themselves and recovering? Track the really ill people only? I don't see any value in that, it's far too widespread for me to imagine it could be effective. Successful treatment with existing (cheap) non-patent drugs would be the boon, though I guess in this case nobody will try and patent, not very good for PR, but excellent NOT to.

I can just imagine Boris telling us all to abandon the British Spirit....
Maybe you are correct.

Treatments yes, but the at least vaccine work is being done collaboratively and the yank companies at least are publishing it all daily in a spirit of cooperation on common portals and on-line peer reviewed publications. Quite heartening really. The same happened with Ebola, but that turned out to be not very infectious with simple precautions and was contained like that although I think they did have a vaccine of some sort by the end, that wasn't needed.. 5 years on when there was another outbreak in Congo the vaccine had been properly developed, was used on 200,000 people and probably helped but there's no proof that it did. It's the same old chestnut - what would have happened without it? Nobody knows but simply avoiding touching dead bodies was enough for the first outbreak.

I hope that does not include Scotch Whisky or London Dry Gin...

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch...
While Jim nice but dim was being so easily led into a stupid tit for that argument over a number plucked from the air and announced only as a distraction, the government quietly rewrote the law giving them huge powers. They already had the power to force treatment in an emergency. They have now made it legal to imprison you, force you to take medication, share all your private medical history, take possession of anything you own and dispose of it in anyway they feel fit. Well done to Jim and others for playing their part in providing a smoke screen for this shit. You gullible fool.

To be truthfully honest, I'm getting more than a little weary of being told "we are watching you" on the cctv cameras that are everywere. I'm grateful, most of the time, for the security they provide but as a means of checking who is behaving and who isn't it is beginning to bite.

I have to say anyone who watches TV news brings a lot of this angst on themselves. I don't watch it and live in blissful ignorance.

That's true but there are more and more cameras about. This whole nonsense started with the cars. When I was little I used to wonder why anyone let cars become affordable. Surely it would be better to just swan about in ones Bentley and enjoy the good manners of other wealthy people on the roads. Why let the plebs in? But no, good old greed kicked in cars are a way to enslave the masses and control their behaviour. The ultimate freedom. To drive one way down a road or the other. How wonderful. Then the cameras arrive. Now the robot cars are coming . It's too scary.
