Not all bad news ... a load of lonely old folk in Skipton have found a new friend to chat with Rog I have to be candid here.... THEY do ME far more good than I do Them. Turns out I'm a lonely but social creature... who'd have thunk it?

I'm still waiting to hear back from "my bank" - apparently they are experiencing high demand ...
meanwhile, the "Business hub folks" at Wakefield MDC have suggested I ask CRT if THEY have any discretionary funding they can divvy out - like "they have" but there are other people with a greater need gonna get first dibs at theirs lol.
twunts... Still, at least we can now move so IF crt open the L & L for timed/pre-booked perhaps, passages, we can get away from Skipton ... rather than a luxurious journey, WHEN allowed out, I'm gonna peg it and get down the Leigh branch and away from this canal ASAP...
YES - if there is going to be another lock down, I want to be in Llangollen when it happens.

I may have missed this, but if you are paying for a 'business licence' then you should certainly want to see that paid back as 'business' is impossible because of 1) the virus situation 2) CRT closing canals. We did the Llangollen end to end, it's OK. The Staffs & Worcs Canal might be considered prettier. especially around the sandstone cliffs of Kinver (Stourbridge - Kidderminster). Southern Oxford is nice too, and dead handy for railway stations, eg. a cruise could be Banbury to Oxford, which is short, yes, but you could include some walking along countryside footpaths, town tours (with you as the guide), etc.

C&RT must SURELY open up to let you go even if, as you suggest, by pre arranged appointments. I'm sure you'll be plastering them with e mails ... I echo patty and wish you the best of luck and fingers crossed. Rog

Does this sound fair? If no canal boats are allowed over the England/Wales border because the Welsh don't want it, how about banning any Welsh people from entering England? A barrier before the Severn bridges should sort it. Stay at home, Save Lives, Save the NHS!

I can't see HOW it could be enforced... from memory, isn't the border chirk aqueduct?... perhaps IF we ever get there, it'll have to be under cover of darkness lol

We drift into Wales at Bettisfield, but only a mile or so, and then it remains England until Chirk.
We intend a slow crawl along Llangollen, starting on Saturday 23rd.
I anticipate there will be a relaxation in Wales during June, but if not we'll turn back at Ellesmere.
That's hoping that EVERYONE operates sensible precautions whilst out and about, and the virus remains 'under control'.

Reminds me of the old 'joke'-"Come home to a real fire, buy a cottage in Wales".
