I have no high regard for our, or indeed anyone elses government. But it seems utterly illogical to suggest that the worlds governments have had a 'shared hysteria' moment, entirely without necessity or reasonable cause, perhaps in the process irreparably damaging their own economies in the process. I cannot accept that as a serious suggestion ... it is weak to the point of idiocy. Rog I think it's as fair to step back and question the unprecedented reaction as it is to accept it on the questionable logic that "goverments get things right".

That made me laugh @loddon But to be fair the pandemic did run 1968/1969. The assassination of King or Kennedy may have been better examples to use. Of course it's always right to question ... and to propose alternate views. But the the suggestion of some mass hysteria entirely without need or reason is a step too far for me. Rog

Get millions of people on e bikes, that's danger, proper danger. Once again Boris & Co. taking their instructions from the Communist Party of China. There is logic... It’s good for Mother Nature and heathy workers add more to profit margins.

Bye bye towpaths now that Grant Schnapps had announced support for more bikes. In fact why not fill in the cut and make 2 wheel vehicles superhighways. much more useful than a silly ditch.

Cars generate too much money I doubt they would end up being disallowed any time soon. If anything car usage will go up as people will not want to go on trains and buses due to the stale air. It would be a good opportunity to legalise fast ebikes and at the same time oblige cyclists to have registration numbers and insurance. It would be enforceable as all you would need to do is nick a few idiots and after a while people will get the message. And ban wheels from towpaths.

I don’t like your ideas, I think you are a control freak and work for the forces of darkness😳 The day I have to register and insure my bikes, is the day I go full pirate.

I don't own a bike. Happier to walk.
Not a control freak at all as it happens but I do think cycles on towpaths are a major problem and likely to get significantly worse if cycling is pushed more by the powers that be.
I would support an arrangement where boat license holders are allowed to use bicycles on towpaths because of the access to their own boat but using towpaths as cycle highways simply negates from the amenity value of towpaths for ordinary people who fancy a nice walk.
They just arrr not wide enough for this sort of shared usage.
I guess am jaded by having spent too much time in the inner city shitholes with zombies everywhere.

I reckon little will change, a bit of relaxation, a request that should be an order to wear face coverings. The evidence is that it lessens the spread of virus from those who are infected. It should have been mandatory earlier, too little, too late. For you Jim, I'd recommend wearing a face covering even when the virus has gone. Well it would put an end to the queue of young women following me round. Just too handsome. I could send them your way if they are desperate. 😋😂😂😂😂🤡

The problem is not the cycles, its the people on them. Mind you the cyclists know that the real problem is people walking in the cycle lane (formerly known as the towpath). Personally I can see that the real real problem is humans, who are are a bunch of opinionated twats who constantly believe they alone have it right. The solution is clear. Expedite research into AI.

I read today that the average age of coronavirus death victims is actually higher than the average age of death from all causes in the UK. Go figure. yup,......... No workplace accidents, no car accidents, and mostly because young twats are being stopped from doing their normal activities, can't buy butane refills, street drugs are getting harder to find, boy racers easier to spot ad nick because nobody else is driving, druggies can't buy drugs 'cos they can't go on the rob when everyone's at home, can't go and knife someone when there are no crowds ...... Truckers can't go murdering prozzies defeating Darwinism, that is a bummer shoplifting has gone through the roof. A big reason as well is no pubs clubs, it just goes to show what a burden the drunken idiots are on the nhs. ETA not to deaths but casualty, so not really relevant to your post at all. Whoops.

Had the biggest giggle for a while today whilst on the way to water/elsan/rubbish.
Family of 5 cyclist all looked a bit wobbly on their shiny new bikes stopped to watch me go past all very bunched up/overlapping - dad who was leading told/barked at everyone to move to the side of the towpath to let a walker through - when dad moved over he lost his footing - all five of them ended up falling over onto the grass!
No harm done and sometimes things are so comical that you have to laugh!
