Locked down and distracted from normal things by a killer virus I enjoy second guessing everything.
Nobody worldwide actually knows much about it inc the virologists - a fact laid out quite frankly in the Govs latest 60 page strategy paper. You can be an expert in some fields without there having been much progress in understanding it. Like brains - nobody knows how they work either.
Perhaps the best thing would be to follow along like sheep without questioning or wondering about anything...but I'm buggered if I'm going to just lie down and die without interest.

I’ve never believed I was an expert in anything, in fact my problem is the opposite. At school and work my report was usually “underestimates his ability”. My problem is that I find it difficult to trust anyone and that I like to get to the bottom of the truth and solve problems. Sorry, had a funny turn there...all normal service will be resumed.

Similar story in my school reports. despite generally getting top marks in subjects I enjoyed (maths and languages) the teachers could see I never made the remotest effort to do anything and always wrote "could do better" even if the marks were close to 100%. I'm glad I didn't follow their line of argument as I suspect I could have had a horribly stressful time of it.

Dont forget an expert is a has been drip under pressure😉 I have always been told my problem is I dont suffer fools gladly. I must admit I do prefer being in this group rather known as a has been drip under pressure😁

My reports always said "Could try harder" despite doing well without not trying at all. I suppose they were right but it was so boring.

And did it go up or down much? Mine was 139 (on the SB scale) it went up briefly to 142 then started a terminal decline. Now down to a measly 128. It's awful to be so brainy.

on the subject of IQ - out of boredom, I was tricked into doing a test the other week - I'm a bit narked with myself as I didn't really click the format of the questions until about 6 in or I'm sure I'd have been cleverer...
I ended up with a score of 115 - above average but nothing special - only 2 areas of super-duperness (my words not the test) - I've already forgotten the areas I shined (shone) in...
suffice to say, I'm not THAT fussed about it... just a little annoyed I'd not done better in the first few questions.

It didn't work like that, if you lived on the council estate you went to the "secondary modern school" where they taught you metalwork or cooking. If you came from anywhere else you went to grammar school to droned at by eccentrics/perverts that had taught in the same way since they started 40 years earlier. I've never had an IQ test.

Mine was measured at 147 when I was in my twenties but the one question that's stayed with me forever is:
"What was the largest island before Australia was discovered?"

Surely that's more of a general knowledge question than an intelligence indication.
You either know it or you don't.

I’m amazed how many expert virologists and epidemiologists we have among thunderboats membership. It just took this pandemic for them to all become apparent. You have to bear in mind Kris that the expert virologists and epidemiologists who the Government present are simply hired guns paid to promote the Government line. They are no more likely to be speaking the truth than economist Mark Carney when he confidently predicted that a vote for Brexit in 2016 would lead to a massive recession. I said that it wouldn't, I was right, so a simple truck driver knew more about economics than the Governor of the Bank of England. "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." - Upton Sinclair

That's quite a good description of my schooling actually but I was lucky enough to escape the attentions of the bloke who got jailed and the other one I was old enough to know he was a perv anyway. Not ideal but I suppose the old boy network and the very undemanding highly paid MI6 contract work was a bit of a bonus. I don't think the abusive teacher who got sacked because of me reporting him was very happy but he never reappeared.
