economist Mark Carney when he confidently predicted that a vote for Brexit in 2016 would lead to a massive recession. I said that it wouldn't, I was right, Well it must be a great relief to some to know that there is not going to be a massive recession. There will be now as a result of the lockdown but there wasn't one as a result of the 2016 eu referendum, which was the point I was making.

I know that but Mark Carney was actually correct.
Maybe he knew that something bad would happen as a result of the Brexit thing but was not sure what it was.
Is it possible that the fixation on the exit from the EU resulted in a lack of concentration which led to the UK having one of the highest death rates per capita from the Coronavirus in the world?
It's not Brexit which caused the problem per se but it may have been compounded because of the situation.
It seems funny timing.
Plus of course the conspiracy of the Chinese handing out the virus. Humans are a clever and devious species.

How come Belgium's per capita death rate is significantly higher than the UK's then when Belgium is where the eu parliament is actually based?

Maybe because they are equally fucked up about the Brexit situation?
It does seem plausible that a major upheaval of political systems could allow a natural or man made virus pandemic to be more damaging.
I don't know. I just made it up on the spot but there do seem to be some slightly odd coincidences.
Probably just that. Coincidence. It's not like Italy and Spain were about to leave the EU as well. They were perfectly ok with healthy economies...

I do feel sorry for excessively clever people having always fallen at the last fence myself.

droned at by eccentrics/perverts that had taught in the same way since they started 40 years earlier. That's quite a good description of my schooling actually but I was lucky enough to escape the attentions of the bloke who got jailed and the other one I was old enough to know he was a perv anyway. Not ideal but I suppose the old boy network and the very undemanding highly paid MI6 contract work was a bit of a bonus. I don't think the abusive teacher who got sacked because of me reporting him was very happy but he never reappeared. It was pretty much like a private school without boarders, though it wasn't. Prefects, Tiny 6th form had a common room with 1st year slaves - "fags", lots of bullying (mainly by teachers), cane etc etc Music teacher was a paedo getting little boys singing sweetly in rounds while drooling and peering over his half moon glasses. When I passed an exam to be allowed to take 0 level latin the teacher said I must have cheated and threw it in the bin. That was the last straw for me.

Couldn't work that out at 11 ... when facts were facts and rules were rules and ............ life was nearly so much simplier When I was about 8,the teacher asked the question-If a chicken weighs 3lb when standing on one leg,how much does it weigh when standing on 2 legs ? You are in a running race and you overtake the person who is in fourth place. What place are you in now? A deaf and dumb man wants to buy a toothbrush. He goes into the shop, and makes a gesture of brushing his teeth. The sales assistant immediately understands that he wants to buy a toothbrush, and sells him one. Next, a blind man goes into the shop and wants to buy a pair of sunglasses. How does he let the sales assistant know this?

I’m amazed how many expert virologists and epidemiologists we have among thunderboats membership. It just took this pandemic for them to all become apparent. This place has nothing on my local facebook group. They are pure experts. Actually thinking about it they are experts at everything. They also grass everyone up for the littlest things.
