I noticed a few recent references to having ‘non drinking days’. It’s funny as I decided yesterday to have a week off drinking. I’ve deliberately had long periods in the past where I have detoxed from booze, but I think the longest was just a few weeks. I think I read somewhere that if you stop drinking for a few months your liver rejuvenates, not sure how true that it though. Since I can remember, which isn’t much these days due to the number of dead brain cells, I’ve tended to binge drink. Usually one day on and a day or two off. My excuse is that I need to keep my blood thin due to having Protein C deficiency (which increases the chances of getting a DVT). My older brother thinks his first DVT started after he gave up drinking so there might be something in it. If not, it’s a bloody good excuse. When I binge I usually get through about half a bottle of spirit (G&T, Vodka & Orange or Jameson’s). For some reason I’ve gone off beer which might be a bad thing. So what kind of pattern does your drinking take?

Bottle of red every other evening. It could easily be a bottle a night but I only buy 1 bottle at a time, and go to the shop every 2 days.

Jane's much more inclined not to drink than I am ... but I try to keep my weight down and know drinking doesn't help.
We're both fortunate not to have any medical issues, and try to keep it that way.
We've both taken to drinking the odd alcohol free beer, so although it feels like drinking it isn't.
I enjoy a whisky with a book last thing ... but try to avoid doing it every evening.
Yesterday we shared a bottle of red ... first time for about a week.
Of course if the pubs were open we would have been calling for the odd beer so times are strange.

I'm surprised so many here seem to have to think about it.

I used to drink every day, a few bottles of ale or a few generous shorts, half a bottle of wine.
A few years ago I got up from a large glass to a couple of bottles of wine an evening in two months. By then I wasn't really getting drunk, just dizzy and ill and found myself looking at it from a different perspective that I'm now stuck with!
A few pints a year now and a bottle of brandy at Christmas. I don't feel any better particularly.

I don’t touch a drop on the 4 days I work but get completely wankered on Stella or other such premium type lagers the other 3 days! Don’t and never have drunk wine / spirits / meths etc.

Couple of years ago I did dry January, it turned into Feb, March, April, May and June. Before that I was drinking a couple or so every day now its a couple of drinks once or maybe twice a week. My consumption of Shipyard Low Tide beer has gone up exponentionally.
