That's too sensible.

Your test is the same as Telemachus' post. I'm sure it's a fine capacity test. But Tomos has a battery or two that he has neglected, and just wants to know if they are now junk or worth keeping. Whats not to understand? Personally I consider a battery to be fucked if it won't hold a charge. Simples. The two methods I gave both give a definitive answer as whether or not that is the case. AH capacity is a different issue.

AH capacity is a different issue. In order to know if the battery is usable, you need first to say what the intended use is. If it is to start an engine, then the drop test is fine. If for a domestic battery, I’d consider it fucked if it charged up, held the charge but only gave 5Ah before it went flat, when it was taking up the space of a 110Ah battery. A battery can be pretty knackered and have very low capacity, but still be able to start an engine whilst being fairly pointless in a domestic bank.

It never fails to amaze me, what people can find to argue over.

Hi all Thanks for the reply's, helpful stuff. I've charged a couple up and will start doing some tests on them. Don't try to lock the thread down before we've had our full five minute argument.
