I always find it amusing, how prior to an excursion onto rivers, folks are clearly wary, cautious, perhaps even anxious ... making enquiries of others and seeking guidance and reassurance. After completing such a trip they become quite calm, even casual about any potential concerns. I hope @socks was able to enjoy the journey. Rog given that she left at Tony's recommended time (she said she was leaving to arrive at Stockwith at slack) and she noted his navigation guidance she should have had good run. At slack water it's not a difficult entrance (Peterboat steered Sabina H into it without even brushing the sides ..... which is pretty good going when you think she is just about as big as you can get in to there )

Monday: trip yesterday postponed as cat went awol [first time in six weeks].
Departed today 12.00 noon, [Hull HW 11.50] ETA W Stockwith [12M], 14.00, arrived 14.30, a fresh enough breeze 'on the nose', river a bit discoloured. Splish splash, and some minor cavitation. Glad of my sailing experience, else it would be 'very scary' It's not so much the rough water, but if engine had cut, I felt I would have had to deploy anchor immediately.
A NB exiting as I made my approach so I could not gunn it in as I was not sure which way he was going, keeper told me to open throttle, it was 'an arrival' !

(eta - sorry, may be supposing too much - perhaps yours isn't) Glad the cat returned and you both made it.

Update: White Hart a disapointment, very ordinary, fish and chips but fish in batter very dry, I could not eat it all. Are you sure they understand beer, it was very lively, and not the full pint! Came home feeling uncomfortably 'full', so, went to bed early, woken up at 03.40 by a "rumbling" , got up, looked out, large dark animal outside. Arthur had fallen in, and managed to get out via Armco, not particularly bothered, it seemed. He's not keen on Boating bit, but OK with country living
FRIDAY UPDATE Chef at White Hart now at The Waterside: home cooked, good food and beer in good condition!

I am disappointed as well, Jayne and I have been back there before lockdowm and ate well, seems strange to have gone downhill so fast. But we do live in changing times so maybe the Chef has changed?

Someone who prepares frozen foods, (including a few undersized chips) is not a chef, more likely someone who drifted in to catering via the Jobcentre. Sadly often the norm in the UK. Every French housewife and chef in every country pub provides a main meal of three beatifully presented courses of food fresh from the market, it is a matter of pride, and is the norm.

I hope it doesn't become the norm round here whatever has reopened seems to be making an effort though most still click n collect or home delivery We do have an wonderful pizza delivery that only cooks Fri and Sat atm The little veggie restaurant has re opened and cannot keep up with demand I guess depends where it is and perhaps if they are unsure of trade they won't go to expense of a chef...however if they don't make the effort they will struggle to survive

When were you in France last? Half of my relatives are french, things have changed and not for the better! As for the pub it earlier this year provided a lovely home cooked meal, as Patty says maybe things have gone wrong?
