The government has also published 43 pages of guidance on operating pubs and restaurants safely. I'm not posting a link, because I'm not capable of supplying the required summary of the content. It includes installing extra bike racks, so that drinkers aren't tempted to use trains … WTF would we do without foxxy relaying all the UK news? Social distancing at Bournemouth today:

I wasn't there ... I guess no one here was there.
We keep distances and wash our hands so what those on the beach do is their concern, their choices, their responsibility.
The litter left behind disgusts me so much more than their lack of personal safety.

Just remember, if you're going to the pub, take a cardboard placard with BLM written on it to save spreading covid 19.

We're not opening our place on the 4th. I think the government has handed licensees a crock of shit having caved in to lobbying from the breweries and going for the popular decision. We cannot see how we can operate at around 15 to 20% capacity with three times the staff i.e. one to manage entry and seat allocation, one to serve and one to pour when we usually run with one bar staff from 1200 to around 1800. On top of that we are supposed to ensure only two households meet up inside or up to 6 from mixed households outside whilst maintaning 1 metre 'plus' separation. We've already had one of our locals attempt to book a single picnic table for 6 people all from different addressses when they won't legitimately support more than two same-household couples sitting at opposite ends. Aside from the economics I'm just not prepared to expose my staff to the amount of bellyaching and conflict that that sort of willingness to ignore the rules is going to cause - people can do what they want in public places but not on my premises where we are accountable. Some may say these are guidelines, not law, which is true, but the H&S legislation requirement to create a safe environment for staff and customers still applies and that is enforceable. Furthermore, any breach of any legislation or good practice could be construed as not supporting the objectives of the licensing act, which can lead to loss or suspension of the liquor license. It took 10 years to build the business up: it will survive with staff on furlough for another month or two, I'm not prepared to risk having it dragged down by fuckwits until we have no other choice. A lot of pubs will open: in some rural settings I suspect none of my issues will arise and I wish them luck, but we'll give it a few weeks, see how it goes. By then we'll either see the beginning of the second wave and another lock-down or a further easing of the restrictions. Update: yesterday saw enough pictures on FB to reassure me that we've made the right decision, people completely disregarding the distancing rules - we'd have spent all day falling out with folk, possibly even fighting. This goes one of two ways now - we either get locked down again in about 10 days time when the numbers start to go up, or we'll be able to open up with even less restrictions in early August.

I'm pretty much resigned to the position that we will see a second wave, and suffer another lockdown.

I have to leave for work 20 minutes earlier on a hot day because even at 9.30pm the motorway is jammed solid.

Much of the news I’ve read, reports that the authorities were generally happy with the behaviour of most people. I certainly saw nothing to worry me whilst I was out. I can’t see there being another countrywide lockdown. Economically not feasible.

May just have to be certain factories and their contacts. I think that would work unless major spike country wide. Its up to the population to be sensible with people they see and interact with
