Hi all. the estranged Captain Faffer here. I have gone and acquired a sewer tube, as they are known as by some folk Things are needed to be changed and the Norman will not cut it now, well thats the decision for the benefit of SWMBO. She has been to good to me so i hav edecided to do my best for her. I come by this Harborough from a woman in distress over it and wanted me to rebuild it for her. Well me being a piloock i told here it would be best and cheaper for her yo buy another ready to go and therefore i lost a lot of work. hey ho. Well as she is as mad as me she offered it me at a dam good price and i took kit. Needs a new superstructure, had recent overplating done ( by a very well served and known welder in the game so proper job done ) and a moist ( it sank ) ST2 which did run fine i believe. I did want to extend it, my welding is not upto that, and cost from what i have found £7k for another 12 foot is not worth it. So pan is to weld on a new top and convert to a live aboard. fit the Merc OM636 i have from the Norman and sell the ST2. So there we have it, i am once again a NB owner The Norman will be put back together and sold as to a state i am happy with. Captain Faffer

I love the shape of the Harborough boats ... really looking forward to seeing this one develop Rog They really shift too. The old window smasher bows. My mum's narrow boat actually had a window smashed by one of these boats. It was moored in Fox's marina and she was going in for diesel and got blown onto the bows resulting in one wrecked channelglaze window. I was tasked to replace the window with a new channelglaze unit which was not quite the same size. Same dimensions but not the same actual size. So angle grinder and raybans for eye protection was required. Wrecked the raybans! Bit annoying actually. I'd keep the ST2 and get it going. They are fine even after a sinking. Proper bullet proof power units. Being an ST it is sensible power. The SR was smaller and you'd want a 3. I also met someone who had had a side intrusion through their cabin above the gunnels by a Margaret Harborough boat. Came right through their grp top. Nice enought boats but those bows are a bit rude to other boats.

Well, you've got a project there lad! I did something similar, a wooden topped wreck, had a steel top welded on and fitted it out. Cant wait to see your results.

I would want to run an alternator or two and i believe the ST2 is no good for that. The OM636 will be fine though. Its a power and off take thing.
And well the bow basher thing is just for folk to be careful around me and me to be careful around them. I have had to do that for many mnay years with the GRP boat. They have high bow rails and are very crushable lol.
I am surprised i even ahve a NB as never been mad on the style/looks/lines of them, but the one that swayed me was the bow.

A teak cabin top would be like the Forth Bridge, start at one end.. never finish varnishing it. I contemplated a new ply wooden top for mine, I looked at the rubber roofing sheet to cap it with. It wouldn't have been any cheaper than the steel top. I'm glad I went that route.

I worked on the first way to replace with PLY/GRP but steel would be around £300 more in materials. after all the laminating i chose steel, i dont mind laminating but very time consuming. Do they varnish the Forth bridge? I could have sworn it was painted. Yes painted with varnish isnt it ? lol

Apparently it's a glass flake epoxy which is forecast to last 25 years.
So the comment about it being continuously painted is no longer valid.

Do they varnish the Forth bridge? I could have sworn it was painted. Nah, red oxide varnish, kept a whole production line going, till they changed to modern paint that doesn't need doing so often.
