I like our cruiser stern, loads of room, nice when we cruise to be able to spread out and not feel on top of each other, but I do fancy a semi trad in the winter. Not sure I would ever fancy a trad.. To be fair now that I have a family I think a cruiser stern is probably better. I started off living on a narrow boat with a cruiser stern with rubbish drainage engine bay flooding with rainwater etc. Most of my boating around the system was done single occupier with a dog on a trad style boat so the sociable aspects didn't have any effect on me. I just liked the fact the engine room and everything were always dry. No friends or relatives on my boat or at least very rarely. A cruiser stern with decent drainage is ok but I do find the old pram hoods rather infra dig and also slightly dodgy looking.

I have a pet hate of pram hoods both on narrowboats and yoghurt pots .... which is why my GRP cruiser is an Ormelite Yes the only work of canvas one should really have aboard is the bit tied to a vertical stick to catch wind but even that is pointless given the availability and reliability of the diesel engine.
