Talking to an experienced ex lockie now a wagon driver, my local area is now dealt with by lads from Burnley who know nothing of the ins and outs, the foibles of the canal locally. They opened a feed up at Summit, nearly washed a wash wall away cos they didn't inspect the outflow first. The knowledge drain, down to too many shiny chaired chiefs and their mismanagement skills, is criminal. Over the last couple of years I have talked to quite a few CRT staff and ex CRT staff that have been either pulling their hair out at the mismanagement and have given up and left or are clinging on in desperate hope that things will improve, some going against their bosses instructions and making things work that otherwise wouldn't.
Great though the attitude is of those who go above and beyond to keep things running it, helps disguise the appalling management attitudes/abilities/knowledge of those at the top.

Sadly, JohnV you are so right. I have met many (mainly ex/former) employees who feel much the same as the rest of us.... You lucky old bu****s who had the best of it! Late to the party, as ever, me ....!!!
