I think all historic widebeams should get exemptions.

That sounds very sensible to me.
Nothing like a bit of government subsidy to encourage a new way of doing things.
It's basically inevitable that it will all go electric at some stage but it really helps if there a few incentives early on to get things going.
I'm a twat for not dropping £10k on Tesla shares when they were $200 not long ago. Now about $1500 that would have been a good move. They did get some help from subsidies early on I think they have been removed now but the momentum is there so it will probably be an upward trend going forward.

Interestingly Tesla make more money facilitating the manufacture of polluting cars than they do from making cars. $104m from making cars last quarter and $428m from selling regulatory credits to other manufacturers so they can produce polluting cars without being fined. www.pressreader.com/uk/the-observer/20200726/282664689711913

It's probably a Good Thing at this stage in terms of financial stability.

It's probably a Good Thing at this stage in terms of financial stability. Yes, but that doesn't make it correct, especially when you say look at us we are saving the planet.

It's nothing to do with saving the planet though is it, in reality.
It's going to be just as damaging but technology will dictate that it will happen.
The only way to really sort things would be to encourage and/or force a massive reduction in travel and consumption by individuals.
No government would ever do that as they would find themselves voted out of office.
